WDLR AM is going to Oldies? Is this supposed to compete with WMNI AM?

Yes, The True Oldies Channel tells me the new owners of WDLR plan to go with the format on January 19, 2008.
WDLR has been listed for a few months now on the R.O.C. station list. Click here and scroll down to Ohio:

Not sure if they plan on competing with WMNI. It dosn't look like it.

I don't like to see Columbus loose a Spanish language radio station. :(

WXOL/WDLR have better reception than WVKO FM. I'm disappointed.

yeah but I am sure the folks that want to hear spanish radio would rather listen to FM than AM... so once WVKO-FM came on with that format, it meant that WXOL's audience likely would look elsewhere.

Well now it's January 21st and there are still spanish.

The Oldies network tells me any day now but a reliable source tells me the gentleman that owns WDLR is going to keep the Spanish LMA so your guess is as good as mine. The new WDLR owner doesn't answer my email inquiring into a format change to Oldies but did talk to the person(reliable source) I talked to. The point being
that it's better to take the LMA money then start a new Oldies station.

If the LMA payment is enough to keep the lights on..it would be silly to boot the spanish folks for satellite oldies.

Spanish language WDLR is mentioned in this news story from WBNS-TV here. They are helping in finding the parents of a abandoned three year old boy. Click here:

http://www.10tv.com/live/content/local/stories/2009/01/30/story_boy.html?sid=102

Video report from the WDLR AM 1550 studio is here:

It looks like the True Oldies network is the back up plan for CS Holdings Inc. in case the Spanish group backs out of or doesn't renew their LMA agreement with ICS Holdings Inc.
