Idea for Another Classic TV Subchannel

I think that a subchannel showing classic shows from 20th Century Fox's television library should be launched, initially on Fox O&Os (e.g. WNYW channel 5 in NYC, KTTV channel 11 in L.A., WTXF channel 29 in Philly, WFLD channel 32 in Chicago, etc.), then whoever else in other markets wants to devote a subchannel to this. Programming that could be on my hypothetical subchannel can be found at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/20th_Century_Fox_Television

Thoughts?

I don't know about a subchannel, but the shows listed in the Wikipedia article might be used to augment My Network's schedule.

A lot of the shows listed were TV movies, especially between 1968 and 1986. TV series between 1949 and 1986 were a mix of good and either unknown or outright bad. A few of them were notable, but only enough of them to give a network as much variety as Ion has. And heaven knows, you can't find any stations showing M*A*S*H these days.

Very good idea, but if it became a reality, it would likely start off good with the likes of shows as "Dobie Gillis," "Peyton Place," and most likely "M*A*S*H" (and perhaps even at least the '90s "Simpsons" episodes) but then once more stations sign on I wouldn't be surprised if they "update" their schedule to airing reruns of "Prison Break" and "Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place" (and perhaps original and "reality" shows).

For a long time I had an idea for a classic cable TV channel, called "The Bomb Channel".....nothing but just awful TV shows of the past, some that only ran 1, 2, or 3 episodes.....of course there wouldn't be enough to fill a 24/7 sked, outside of countless rerunning....but infomercials could run in the odd hours.

Certainly, whether a subchannel or cable, it might work.....it sure would be a change of pace from shows/networks that try hard to work! The logo bug could be a lit bomb (like the Milton Bradley "Time Bomb"), and the slogan would be "Laugh AT us, not with us."

:)

When F/X started it was a retro network featuring the 20th Centruy Fox Television Library. TV Land started around the same time with their Viacom library. Eventually F/X changed their focus.

Fox TV will never do it, it would totally harm their reputation among the 18-35 group that they have tried so hard to build up over the years

If this channel ever became a reality, could we request that "Hello Larry" and "Supertrain" be part of this schedule? :D :D Plus any shows NBC premiered in the falls of 1978 and 1983 that quickly bombed ('78 featuring "Waverly Wonders," "Who's Watching the Kids," etc.; fall '83 had the likes of "Manimal," "Jennifer Slept Here," and "Boone"). Or for a few weeks, run NBC's full fall 1978 and/or 1983 schedules just to see why audiences declined to "NB-See Us" or "Be There" in those respective seasons.

And also another idea for such a channel: run the 1980-81 season of SNL (the near-cancellation season after the defection en masse of the original Not Ready for Prime Time Players).

OHHHHHHH yeah!

Back when channel 33 Miami was young, there was a teaser between shows: "Guess what's coming to TV 33??"....then a Don Adams soundalike said, "Would you believe, Supertrain??" Of course it turned out to be Get Smart reruns, but I thought that the teasers were cute. In fact I wasn't even sure it'd be Get Smart....just the "Would you believe..." had me thinking, hey maybe they DID snare Supertrain reruns!

And other idea if a "special" NBC fall '78 or '83 week aired on this hypothetical channel--have all of the original NBC fall promos from those seasons with commercials from those times (if possible).

I'll buy that! Gotta be classic games, and no "homemade" shows (whoever would start it up wouldn't have the $$$ anyway to produce any).

Would love to find some old game shows unearthed, that are believed to be lost forever. (Some deserve to be buried, but I digress.)

How about a TV channel devoted to classic and modern variety shows, which were once the staple of network TV? We can have classic shows from Red Skelton, Dinah Shore & Tennessee Ernie Ford, as well as originally produced shows that can be broadcast across the USA! Let me hear from you at [email protected] today.

It's been pretty accepted that such a channel would never fly, mostly because of music rights issues..something I'd love to see though..

I've had he idea in the past of an ARTS-style noncommmercial channel with old TV,,wouldnt have to be the big hits..Hundreds of shows that have never been seen since their original airing..

a sports channel that focuses on live and tape-delayed broadcasts of
small college and minor league games

I had an idea for a channel a while back that would take that to another level; my channel would have only game shows that aired originally on Over The Air television in the United States and Canada(whether it be on a network: CBS/NBC/ABC/Fox, even Pax would qualify) and no shows that originally aired on Cable TV(USA Network/none of GSN's originals either).

However there would be some provisions/exceptions: shows that aired on USA Network in the US, but aired on OTA stations in Canada at the same time would air on this network, and game shows that aired on cable and then aired in syndication(Double Dare, Remote Control, etc.) would air on the network, but only their OTA runs(the Fox and syndicated Double Dare for example would only air).

Even with those provisions/exceptions the channel idea that I thought of would be have a great lineup: Family Feud, Match Game, pretty much all of Goodson-Todmans shows, all or most of Barry and Enright shows, Name That Tune, prime time shows, etc. Now that would be a great channel.

Maybe you could even dig up some old commercials from these shows and promos for the shows as "Retromercials" or special features. Oh and one more thing: my network would have no credit crunches, no editing, and the contestant plugs would stay intact, probably with a "This Phone Number or Address No Longer Active" like the old school USA Network game show block on the screen.

Basically shows would air as they aired on OTA television originally

You would have no such shortage of bombs: "My Mother The Car", "The Tammy Grimes Show", "The Ugliest Girl In Town", "Accidental Family", "Blondie" (the 1968 version), "The Pruitts of Southampton", "O.K. Crackerby", "Me and the Chimp", "Holmes and Yo-Yo", "Mr T. and Tina", "The Waverly Wonders"...and that's just from the 60's and 70's!

And no infomercials!

Okay, here's another suggestion. Let's have a channel that airs programming(both old and new) from Canada, the UK, Australia and Japan(dubbed anime and live action series).
