if ? gets the 2 CC stations, what will happen to them.....(just bored)

Well I guess SOMEONE has to start this thread ::)

I am guessing this will happen if (company A) buys these stations:

CBS-96.5-stays "Mix" with a more alternative lean to compliment Hot, and K-rock, yeah I said K-rock......
or goes Fresh and become a type of AC, soft, soft modern, or otherwise.......
101-I don't see this station staying Mega given the reason for spinning this station off, I think "K-Rock 101"
(think LA KROQ,not NYC K-rock)
probably with Opie and Anthony in the mornings, and Loveline late at night.....
Or maybe urban AC, I think CBS can do this, and get the Magic Man away from 102, he is
under appreciated over there, with Zoe Bonet at night......

Entercom-not likely but we all know that-96.5-probably like KAMX Austin
101-Possibly rock again

Citadel-ha ha-same as Entercom-96.5-watered down mix, maybe like WPLJ NYC
101-another Scott Shannon True Oldies Vehicle, boring presentation, but
nice change of pace musically. Yeah we have KHTC-HD2, but it is not on
where most can hear it....NO one I know has a HD radio....that I know of

Emmis-same as the other cash strapped cos.-96.5-status quo
101-Emmis is one of those companies that could think outside
the box, maybe a Serious News/Talker or maybe even AAA...
or maybe even go after 97-9 and become "Power 101"
modeled after the successful hip hop stations in NY and LA...

BMP-96.5-probably stays the same, I see them keeping this English
101-stays Mega if that's allowed, or maybe Digital 101....
or maybe be a rhythmic AC..let's see how that works on a full signal

Lotus-96.5-AC or status quo, probably tweaked
101-judging by there stations, they have quite a bit of rock, so rock 101 reborn.....

Bonneville-you never know-96.5-finally a 96-5 delivers on a better mix, I think they would do a good job w/mix
101-News/Talk, maybe even...(gasp!)a new country station....what about a comtemporary standards (Emmis could do this here also) I think in Houston it may just work,.

The Slumlords-Cox-96.5-a copy of KSMG San Antonio, yuck
101-Country Legends to use frequency position to its advantage from KILT.
or some type of dry AC format, or even Urban AC

Liberman-96.5 and 101-all you need is a sound effect of a toilet flushing.....

ok your turn group.............

Don't forget the fart sounds of a guy who just ate a big bowl of Nachos! ;D

Hmmmph. I think I like your CBS ideas. Actually, that's what I've said before to friends. Nice!!!

I do too, with one exception. I don't see Mix staying status quo if CBS does purchase it. Can you say "Live 96.5"?

As far as Country Legends moving to 101, that seems doubtful. If Cox moves a station it would be K-Hits. 107.5 gets trounced by S.A.'s KXTN every time the wind blows from the west. Moving K-Hits to 101, and re-simulcasting 97.1 with 107.5 would give K-Hits a monster signal on Senior Rd., and Country Legends 2 100kw signals destroying every other country station even trying to play a classic country song.

BTW, Hifi's Liberman comment should be nominated for post of the year. :D

we have plenty of stations that play hip hop. An urban AC would be nice to compete with the almost fully syndicated Magic.

It would be nice to hear an americana (Texas Country) type format that steers away from Rascal Flatts type crap, mixed in with country classics.

As for active rock...yeah we need one. I'm sure a lot of people are praying for a Rock 101 rebirth.

I have a question? Can CC sell these stations to just anyone to keep from having any real competition?
Maybe some civic affairs group?

If so I would say they just might do that. Cash strapped they are but they are looking out for the future.

Csash strapped? They had EBITDA of several billion last year.

As I recall reading the article, Clear Channel had a $799 million, first quarter in 2008. While that revenue may not meet their expectations, I laugh every time I read of how "strapped" CC is for cash. Wouldn't we all like to have $799 million in play? I'd like to try it, once!

Revenue, not profit. There is a thing called expenses.

You may think it is a lot of money, but you have to consider how much they invested and if it was worth it. With all expenses, 799 Million dollars of revenue may seem like a waste of time and effort to them.

The revenue was $1.5 billion and the net income after expenses, interest and taxes of $799 million.

And that is one quarter. Take it on an annualized bases, we are talking about a gross of $6 billion and a profit of $3 billion.

If anyone is a buyer, I think this one is going to be CBS.

They may keep Mega the same, they do well with their tropical format in DC. But Mix, they wont do too much with. Maybe model similar to Mix 98.5 in Boston, but it does well!

David,
Thanks I thought by the way they were cutting they were in $$ trouble. Something just aint right. It must be the $$ flow never makes it down the food chain. Thus much of the chain must be sacrificed?

Why would you make the assumption that they're just going to mirror other stations they already own? That's rediculous.

WHY WOULD CBS BUY??? THEY ARE ON A SELLING MODE. AND WHOMEVER BUYS MEGA AND MIX WOULD BE AN IDIOT TO FLIP ANY OF THE FORMATS TO SOMETHING ELSE. MIX HAS PPM RATINGS AND MEGA IS #1 SPANISH. GOOD JOB OMAR PD. IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT CC MEGA EPLOYEES WERE TOLD THAT MEGA WOULD REMAIN THE SAME FOR ATLEAT 2 YEARS.

Hi, mrtexmex2007/latino2008... First of all, CBS is selling their mid-markets because profit isn't there, and only doing really well in major markets. So, why would CBS buy? Because there's profit to be made, being that Houston is a major market. Second, Mega "eployees" being told that Mega would remain the same is hogwash. Whoever buys it has the right to do anything they please with the signal. Yes, it's #1 in Spanish. But could better ratings (therefore, revenue) be made with a different format? Maybe. Is Houston missing some formats? Yes. A nice non-HotACish AC would do well, as would an active rock station. If this was the case, they could lean mix alternative like it had been, and CBS would be doing well with them, while squeezing The Buzz and KRBE... bringing those stations, plus HOT into higher standings.

... anyone willing to donate to my consultation? haha.

My 2 cents: CC is not necessarily selling "Mega" and "Mix" so that another owner gets the formats and results of all the promotional efforts put into those stations over the years.

Clear Channel is obliged by the DoJ to sell two FM radio stations, which means two licenses.

If Mix and Mega are as profitable as you guys say, there's nothing stopping CC from selling 101 and 96.5 and flipping the formats of two of their other less-profitable stations, now calling them Mega and Mix and even keeping the call letters KLOL and KHMX, leaving the new owners of 101 and 96 to make up their own (possibly lucrative) formats.

CC could even make it a stipulation of sale that they are entitled to 100,000 announcements that "Mega" is moving to 94.5, or whatever -- if they choose to.

BTW, the last time I was at the Houston CBS studios, they seemed to have more control rooms than they had stations, even keeping in mind the production facilities. Maybe enough room for two new stations? Or is CBS determined to keep KIKK-AM?

New owners are not obligated to keep promises of the previous owners. If anyone has a contract, they may purchase the option. In other words, pay them off. I can't tell you how many times I've seen that happen.
