If you could bring back one radio show, who would it be?

I would bring back Jerry Goodwin to BCN just to hear that ominous intro that would play for like 20 minutes while he was skiing in the back of the record stacks:

All reverbed and echoed:

"DUKE OF MADNESS, DUKE OF MADNESS. DUKE OF MADNESS......"

LOl

Genius 8)

I would agree with most all of these (especially Jess Cain, Jerry Goodwin & JoJo Kincaid)...one person I would add to the list would be Sunny Jo White...he made radio sound FUN!!

As a matter of fact, most of the people I miss are those who made (make) radio sound like they were having a good time...Dan Justin @ Magic is another one of those jocks!

OH MY GOD YEAH!!!

I dont know HOW I forgot about Sunny Joe, honest to god I worshipped the guy growing up, he was just bigger than life and complete show biz. I dont mean that in the schmaltzy kind of cheesy way, but he was a star and to me as big as any of the artists that he played. God may he rest!

tthank you for that humbling reminder of how far we all have to go in this buisness my man. :-\

Dave Palmater's Celtic music show on WMBR.It was a damn good show, not a green grass,Galway Bay,Danny boy kind of show.I learned a lot listening to it.

Brian O'Donovan does a good Celtic show on Saturdays on WGBH. I'm into Celtic music & I don't mean the "Clancy Lowered The Boom" variety, & think he plays a good variety on Saturday afternoons.

Re: If you could bring back The Duke

It is heartwarming to see so much fondness for The Duke of Madness. You know, Like Lou Reed's doggies named The Count & The Duke, WCGY also had The Count & The Duke.

Duke is teaching at New England Institute of Art. he dropped in and said Hi to me when I was on a panel
November 5 last year for the IBS regional college radio conference. Nice man.

yes I used to teach with him when the school was called Northeast Broadcasting school, and you're right Jerry is a really good guy!. Anyone remember HollyWood Hamilton's little brother Tony "WILD CHILD" Hamilton?.....I wouldnt bring him back i just wonder if anyone remembers him....... Power 103 wasnt it?.

Dave can currently be heard working as the weekday afternoon drive host on WUMB. Unfortunately, he only gets to use a very small fraction of his encyclopedic knowledge of folk/Celtic music there, as he must stick to music within their contemporary folk/acoustic AAA playlists. He does still manage to slip in some interesting stuff here and there, though.

Dave could not continue after more than two decades at WMBR for essentially two reasons. One was that his job as afternoon drive host as well as Operations/Production Manager at WUMB took up too much of his time to allow him to continue the show and all the volunteer work required to qualify for a show at WMBR. Also, his program at WMBR was a weeknight evening show, and weeknight evenings at WMBR are now almost all MIT student produced programs, because that's the time that many students are free to do radio.

Dave is currently presenting a live music series called "Folktracks Live!", bringing in traditional folk and Celtic performers on the second Monday of each month at Club Passim in Harvard Square. If you enjoyed what Dave used to do on his "Folktracks" show on WMBR, you might want to check out the live version.

Some good ones, but you are all missing the boat. It would definitely be Vinnie Peruzzi and his club classics, whether it was on Kiss 108, WNTN,WZOU, Eagle 93.7, Star 93.7. that was the greatest show and he was a great person!!!! Vinnie was the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

>>The Zou......best sweepers of all time, ok well IMO.

Which era? I am just about to throw out a bunch of Zou sweepers with some other old crap.

Nik,
I'm sure Tai would be appreciative of your comments...I work with him over at The New England Institute of Art...not one day goes by that our talks don't end up in discussion about the radio industry...I keep telling him that someday he'll return to the airwaves, but he's not so sure :)

I know, he NEEDS to. HE is one of the few originals around whether you like his style or not, Ive yet to hear anyone else like him. Personally I always thought he was great and listened to him on fnx when I was a listener before I even got my first gig.
