iHeart 80's 103.7 is now 80s Plus 103.7

Speaking of KOSF. Would the coverage be better when they were at Sutro Tower with a grandfather coverage of 7.2kw/461M vs 6.4kw/403M at San Bruno Mtn?

I just heard their new jingles. They are from the KIIS 2007 Mainstream Package from Reelworld. They weirdly fit with this station, and I can not really explain the big picture as to why they do.

Here is a Soundcloud post from Stuart Carlson with an aircheck of 103.7 80's+ using this package:

What do you think about 80's+'s use of KIIS 2007 Mainstream by Reelworld? Does it fit, or nah?

I'm not an engineer, nor am I in the San Francisco market, but I've been told in the past that the Sutro Tower has some issues getting a reliable signal into San Jose. The reception is better downtown, but not as strong in some of the areas that are shadowed by terrain. As for your question about Vacaville, I would be curious to hear a definitive answer as well. In general, it sounds like there are some good advantages to the Sutro site, as long as you're not grandfathered in with a strong power level. I think David also mentioned one time about how there is a radius around the Sutro site where the beam tilt doesn't allow for very strong reception. It seems like there just aren't enough advantages for KOSF to justify a move (this is also considering that I don't know that the tower real estate looks like for Sutro).

I was in San Francisco last week, and had the opportunity to listen to KOSF. I have to say, I was really impressed with the music selection! The hosts sounded excellent, and they threw in a few a few songs that I haven’t heard in ages! In particular “Shattered Dreams” by Johnny Hates Jazz.

I know that iHeartRadio tends to get a bad reputation, and I haven’t always been a fan of some of their decisions, but it sounds like they are doing a really good job with KSOF. iHeart also owns a classic hits radio station in my home market of Seattle (KJR), and I’ve been impressed with that station as well.

I agree that KOSF sounds quite good these days.

The long overdue refresh has definitely improved the station.
I agree! They state on their social media accounts that they’ve added many more songs from the 1980’s as well, and I believe them. I’ve been listening to them every day now haven’t gotten tired of it.

I have the last 11 days of KSFX On tape just before they changed to KGO-FM. And the beginning of KLOK-FM When KGO-FM Signed off.

I remember both of those changes quite well. I really found the launch of KLOK-FM entertaining, they went on the air playing nothing but Neil Diamond stating they waiting for calls to build San Francisco a new radio station, but the phone lines weren't up.

The beginning of Yes/No radio under Davis- Weaver for both KLOK AM/FM. They also did it at KWIZ AM/FM in Santa Ana and KFIG AM/FM in Fresno in 84/85.

Recently I found a friend's tape from the Disco era of KSFX (Disco 104). Those are in addition to the tapes I have.

A bit off the flow of discussion here, but KOSF has improved their standing from the recent book (from a share of 2.1 to 3.0, and now tied for 7th in 6+ PPM ratings with Alice 97.3 and KDFC.). Looks like the rebranding is working (at least for now).

It's still weird to hear KIIS 2007 jingles in this station, although it's probably for tempo reasons as I believe the Kiss Boston 2006 jingles (used for Q105 in Tampa) are a good fit for classic hits radio.

It'd be interesting to know if A25-54 numbers have made a similar shift upward. I agree with earlier posts that playlist construction is quite good at the moment.
