iHeart Boston Layoff?

And probably other iHeart stations in New Eng
though he isn't on the iHR stations in
Manchester (on WFEA not WGIR) and
Worcester (on WCRN not WTAG)

Howie Carr Radio Network is launching "The Grace Curley Show" starting Jan.4 2021.

She's taking the Virgin Boy time slot.

I can't imagine that going anywhere.

VB must feel like $#!+ though, knowing he was replaced by an air-head.

On an unrelated note, I heard K000nah refer to Sandy, sounds like Sandy Shack is either producing his show or working the phones now.

Also,
New Howie deal with iHeart to continue on RKO.

Perhaps when Howie retires after his new contract ends - he'll be around 73 then, if my reckoning is correct, perhaps the HCRN will put VB in his place.

I've heard Grace a few times when I used to listen daily to Howie. I kept comparing her to Sandy and so that didn't bode well for Ms Curley.

Makes you wonder, though: WRKO's ratings were the best in decades for the most recent 6+, and, next thing you know, iHeart lets VB go. Now we know why, but is it really the best move for them?

Jordan Levy on WTAG in Worcester is not getting any younger. I wonder how long he’ll be on the air or iHeart shows him the door.

Then I’m thinking they will try to grab the Howie Carr show from WCRN. And add the new show with Grace Curley instead of going with whoever replaces Rush.

Sandy is an attorney (or at least has a law degree) so she's not a complete air-head. I would listen to her when she filled in for VB or K00nah. She wasn't horrible, but she also lacks the gravitas someone like Howie or K00nah bring to the table as political analysts. She wasn't a squish like VB though, she has a pair of stones. K00nah referred to her again on today's show so she's obviously doing something at RKO now.

I have no idea what Grace's degree is in. All I can recall is her claim to fame was doing a Howie Carr poster calendar one year. I'm going to guess she's about my eldest son's age, given she graduated from PC in 2014. A show hosted by Grace will probably be akin to listening to Cosmopolitan or Glamor magazine on the air. If you forced me to listen to it I'd probably take a lead aspirin. Maybe we can pipe it to Gitmo. I do not know how you sell a pretty face on the radio.

Not working in the industry, I don't know how this works. Does WRKO pay Howie to carry his show, or does Howie buy the air-time from RKO, where the station gets certain ad slots and the "network" gets certain ad slots they can sell (effectively self-syndication)?

She was saying something along the lines of: her show won't be Kardashian/Bachelorette/celebrity nonsense like it would have been if she'd done this several years ago; that working with Howie has rubbed off on her and it's going to be something that Howie listeners should enjoy.

We'll see.

edit: Go here and listen at about the 4:00 mark.

I have listened to Sandy and always felt her educational background and rather calm demeanor enabled her to hold her own against some of the more obnoxious of 'RKO's callers. It's a waste of her talent to be ANYBODY's call screener / producer, whether it be Howie's, Dan Rea's, or Kuhner's. She deserves her own weekday time slot.

It's also too bad that Howie and Steve Robinson parted ways. While super-caffeinated, Robinson was up on his politics.

>>Jordan Levy on WTAG in Worcester is not getting any younger.

Someone on a political messageboard, who lives between Springfield and Hartford, says he regularly listens to Howie on WHYN 560 Holyoke but "someone else was on yesterday and they kept announcing the station as WTAG".
I said iHeart was known to screw up automation etc so it could have been that (he may have been getting Levy)...but then again
he may have had an analog display radio and
simply tuned in 580 WTAG by mistake.

"Not sure how well 580 comes into your
area..." I added. Hmm.

Re Steve Robinson--I prefer Taylor Cormier's
voice to Steve's, myself.Taylor does impersonations too. Robinson went to Minihane's podcast IIRC.

Steve filled in for Howie on occasion before they
parted ways.
Howie's producing and ownership of Grace's show may do better than the short lived Curt Schilling Show he tried. It was much ballyhooed but didn't last long.Online only I believe (RKO didn't pick
it up, I believe and WFEA Manchester was due to air it but never did.)

Jared Goodell used to work for WFEA then joined
Howie's show.Jared sued Howie at one point.
I didn't hear how that turned out but my guess is
Jared was unsuccessful.
Fall 2016--Curt Schilling Show, briefly ran
Fall 2018--Goodell lawsuit
More recently Goodell tried to run a furniture store
in Keene but it closed.

Prov Journal:
"The only problem with Schilling's "radio" career is that it will start on the Internet, not the airwaves, according to Jared Goodell, operations manager of the Howie Carr show. Schilling's initial broadcast can be found online at the CurtSchillingShow.com while Carr's operation works to sign contracts with the stations that carry Carr's show to carry Schilling's, too."

I guess they laid off the guy who would have made sure that they didn't run the November 25th Fox news at 11:30 on November 30th.

Who am I kidding? They've been doing that sort of thing for years.

I wonder if Steve left because of that obnoxious twit that works for Howie?

I like Sandy, she's respectful to callers...unlike kuhner - haven't listened to him
for about 7 or 8 years, back then he'd insult callers, named called, told them
to get back on their meds, etc...Sandy OTOH listens and then answers, no
name calling, no insulting....I didn't really care for her when she worked for Howie
but after she moved over to WMEX and had her own show in the 12-3 slot I
started listening to her more and more and grew to like her...she has her own show
on RKO on Saturday nites from 5 to 7pm.

Steve took a job with Kirk Minihane but I don't know if Curley was one reason.
I note on the promo RKO is running, Shack calls herself
Sandy there and most likely Nancy when on
BZ.All those years with Howie's show and listeners
think of her as Sandy.

A clip from Howie's show made national news yesterday. He was interviewing Joe DiGenova, who said the former head of election security should be shot. So all the news channels grabbed that audio and credited Howie Carr.
