I'm hearing Fresh everywhere

I work in the financial district, and I go to Liberatos on Cedar Street for their Chicken Pahm on Gahlic bread sometimes, and they used to have mix on. Then they had Fresh, nd now they've goten satelitte radio with dance tunes. I think the buzz around fresh is over and it will die a slow death like the other formats that station has had since O&A appeared.

Not hearing Fresh in a couple of establishments, especially ones that had a classic dance station on previously and now have put dance back on via satellite radio, hardly signifies an impending slow death of a station. For that matter, neither does hearing it in a handful of establishments I frequent signify impending ratings success, though it is noteworthy that out of the five or six places where I've heard Fresh on since they first came on the air, only one seems to have flipped back to Lite.

Been listening to Fresh on and off since the flip. The music mix is tolerable, safe. I've heard a few tunes that had been missing from the radio landscape for a number of years, so that's a plus. I do find the station ID's and bumpers to be a bit annoying. Looking forward to hearing some live jocks on the station. That'll tell me what they're going to be in the long run. Hopefully they'll be able to bring some personality to the fold and not just be liner card readers. As far as Mix, I'm not missing that a bit. KTU fills that void nicely, as it rightfully should.

I actually remember hearing Mix in a number of establishments. I haven't heard Fresh anywhere, but then again here in Central Jersey it's usually Magic 98.3 (WMGQ). I have been forced to listen to this station in the car by one of my friends, and I have to say that I would take this over either Lite or Magic any day. However, I still wish CBS would come to their senses and flip 102.7 to alternative (and a real alternative, not a reincarnation of K-Rock).

That just goes to show you how incredibly BORED New Yorkers are of the dreaded Lite FM! Kill me please...or let me listen to a bad AC station with no personality...just like Lite FM!!

LITE is still #1 by a large margin. The station that needs to be concerned is WPLJ. Then again this might just be curiosity cume for FRESH, we'll see how they are doing a year from now.

I haven't heard "Fresh" anywhere in the suburbs....haven't even heard anyone talking about it. You would think with all the ads that someone would know something about it. I think WLTW still has it. I "tried" Fresh and went right back to Lite. They should rename "Fresh" to "Boring". Just another dry format that isn't going to fly.

Just because you haven't heard it played doesn't really mean anything. Just like the fact that I've heard it in several establishments, most of which used to play Lite, also doesn't mean anything. Whatever group of people/establishments you or I know doesn't represent the market as a whole.

It would be nice if people could post more constructive praise or criticism of Fresh, other than "oh I don't know anyone that listens to it, it must totally suck!"

True, but it's the same with many postings about different formats. It's all about "personal taste" in music. Nothing here represents the entire market. We have the "naysayers" about every format out there and most of them have no clue about the business side of radio. "This or "that" "won't work" in NYC....most are not based on the real "facts", but simply from people who dislike a certain type of music.. I guess my basic point was that radio as a whole in this area just is not "original" anymore. It's very boring and bland and many broadcast outlets sound the same as the others that are available.

You are absolutely right about radio no longer being original, however, I don't feel that Fresh is any more of a culprit in radio's lack of originality than any other commercial radio station. I think it's a safe bet that even if another format, say country or modern rock, were placed on 102.7, it would still be bland and predictable. Country would be a novelty for New York, as there hasn't been a country station here in over a decade, but as an individual format, it would probably be just as bland as any other commercial format. That's really the unfortunate reality of commercial radio today.

Very, Very True. Can't dispute that. It really comes down to a good programmer to make any station interesting. But, many or most that we have today are just so predictable. In addition, the "personalities" don't sem to be allowed to be original anymore. Case in point...listen to ANY CC station in any market and they all sound the same. It's a shame.

That's because no matter the format CC hands down directives about how they want radio to be done. It's like K-Mart, McDonalds or a cookie cutter; however you want to describe it. They remove the personality of the station itself. Imaging is almost interchangeable as well... And it's going to get worse.
