im kind of thinking... HALLORAN BACK TO 91X ??

this is my guess as it looks as though kbzt will flip to a format he saw comming and jumped ship to the music he likes best ?
just a guess ???

This possiblity hit me today. Halloran back to 91X as PD/Afternoons. He's reunited with John Lynch. Jack Evans, the VP of programming at BCA brings back Malcolm Ryker for imaging (currently with CC). I believe Jack brought Malcolm here from Denver when they were both there with Jacor. Mikey moves to mornings on 91X.

And why would you make tons of changes on 91X when the ratings are better than they've been in years.

Im pretty sure the MIKEY your talking about is going or is @ kbzt , i say go old school & bring back Billy bones , Michael halloran , Steve west , oz medina & Robin roth , just a wish ::)

being an outsider from Houston.....I've got questions.
how long has Halloran been away from 91X? With the purchase today, how does the proposed team relate to the what 91X was like, and what are the rumors of FM949?
I've been a regular listener to FM949 since they went on the air and online. Hate to see another influential alternative station go away like Indie 1031.

Thanks!

How was Indie influential? It had no listeners and made no money.

KROQ is influential. 91X has been influential.

Indie was influential creatively. KROQ broke out artists like Death Cab For Cutie, MGMT, Muse, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Kings of Leon etc. because they reached heavy play on Indie. KROQ inspires every alternative station which in turn inspired 91X. Many KROQ employees admitted to listening to Indie shows to see what artists were on the rise to be considered for the playlist.
Indie had no listeners because it's playlist was too broad and because of the weak signal.

This is a pretty good guess as to how long halloran has been gone from 91x , i would say since 1996 , he went to 92.5 the flash & then onto premium 92.1 & sister station cool 94.3 in orange county , and then to kbzt , as far as fm949 everyone is saying its going to flip to rock.
another houstonian ?? i just moved here from southern ca on a job transfer 5 weeks ago , texas is all new to me :) my favorite station has to be ktbz , its nice to hear A.D on the air as i loved him on alt nation on sirius.

If it had no ratings because of the weak signal, how come that signal has four times the listeners now? It was bad programming in the diary and it became worse in the meter.

If bad programming, you mean no tight playlist...
That isn't the case in the question of how Alternative Radio was influenced by Indie.
You obviously never saw that most top charting artists on Indie were eventually added to the KROQ playlist.

Indie 1031 did make money at first for a few years ask david edwardo and he has never talked well about indie. It did make mney and it did have listeners!!! Heres praying fm 949 does not get blown up!!!

Indie made money only because CC gave Entravision a guarantee. Once that ended and they had to fend for themselves, it fell apart.

Radioresearcher, you don't know what you're talking about.

Entravision made MORE money after the CC deal feel through, instead of a 2 mill guarantee they made they whole ball of wax (8-10 mill)
The CC deal lasted a year and a half, the station lasted 3 1/2 years past the end of the CC deal.

Don't talk out your arse.

And to your previous post, Indie was influential in that it broke artists that then Kroq had to play.
Indie influenced Kroq. Period.

Did 103.1 move to San Diego? ???

No offense to Halloran or Steve West, but I think 91X should do the right thing, and hire DSC...
It would be great, they could bring back "Dickin' with Mason." :p

Breaking artists is not being influential. Making money is. KROQ is influential, Indie wasn't.

So if KROQ played static for hours it would have still made money?
It's programming that makes a station!
Without Indie, alternative would not be as a successful station as it is today because alternative stations would have virtually sucked without the addition of popular artists such as Muse, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and MGMT.

Steve West hasn't been on 91X in a while. Mookie takes care of middays now.
As far as DSC on 91X, the demo that 91X is most popular with right now, the 18-34 demo, wouldn't match with what DSC does. Mat Diablo and his team are doing a good job capturing that demo.

This may upset a few of you, but I really don't buy the "demo" argument.
To me, that works with music. But when you're talking about personalities, I don't really see why DSC can't entertain a 91X audience. To that end, I don't understand why 91X could not just tweak. DSC spent years on KIOZ (a format rather similar to 91X's in my opinion) before being moved back to KGB by new owners Jacor.

I'm sorry, disagree with me all you want. But when it comes to people, I don't buy the demo argument, nope.

Programming makes a station ... you are right. Indie's programming was BAD. I have a feeling without Indie, ALL of those artists you mentioned would've been found by radio.

While I would enjoy hearing DSC again and the "Dickin with Mason" bit was great. I think they would have to take an even bigger cut to their salary than what CC was offering them. If FCB had any money to spend you think they might have been current on the loan so that they could have kept the stations and not lost them to BCA.
