Imaging vocal FX

In all these imaging packages, and imaging I hear on commercials. Everybody uses the same effects on their voice? What kind of effects are they? Like you hear on WBBMFM Chicago

Most likely they're all using one of the Waves bundles. They just use the stock settings and don't bother to try combining effects to come up with something new.

Boy do I miss the 60s and 70s.

yup, they DO all sound the same and that's the cryin shame of it.

Why is that? Use of tape echo or flanging was about the limit of any production effects I ever heard in those days. Most production I recall from that era was read-script-over-bed, maybe throw in a couple sound effects.

Keep in mind that outside of the major markets the production studio back then was basically a little closet with a mic, a 4-pot mixer, a reel-to reel deck, a cart machine & a turntable. Probably mono.

If you are familiar with torrent sites you can download MANY apps, including the WAVES RTAS/DX plugs.

I have all of the WAVES packages. Most recently I was able to get the WAVES SSL4000 plugs. They're ok. I found some others I like better.

There's a new pkg out, WAVES Mercury, that has a "Vintage Compressor" that I'd like to try. Not available on the torrent site I use.

Being that I'm an Adobe 1.5 user I wish that the Digi/Bomb Factory plugs were DirectX. I sooooo badly want to use the UREI 1176 and LA2 plugs.

I did get PT LE7...I'll get around to Pro Tools one day. The Mbox Mini has my interest peaked due to the low price. I've also downloaded Vegas 8.0 and many others off a torrent site. Lots of great plugs with the Sony/Sonic Foundry packages. No issues with viruses at all!

Not too mention that the CW does not have a contract with Direct TV, so I download a few shows as well. Love the DVD burner!

The really good production was from guys who made heavy use of the "edit all" editing block. Still keep mine in my studio. Haven't used it in years, but it was everything!

Maybe I'm reading the original post incorrectly, but it seems to me he/she is saying all of the imaging voices are processing their voices the same way and wants to know how they do it. Basically most of the male radio v-o on CHR and rock stations these days runs through some variation of an EQ filter, cutting the low frequencies and spiking the upper-mids, then compressing the crap out of it. You don't need to spend thousands of dollars on plug-ins and effects packages to do this... the stock plug-ins on any decent digital editor will do the trick. Personally, I'm over that sound and am glad to see more voice guys are starting to let their voices do the work again instead of the processing.

What are Torrent Sites are they file sharing? Is that safe?

Peer to peer/sharing? Essentially, yes.

Keygens are made available, etc. Those apps with "Locks" are sometimes already "unlocked" for you.

Safe? If you have good anti-virus you should be ok. I use AVG (Free edition). Better than anything out there. Haven't had an issue yet. Also use the AVG Spyware. Works great!

You want AVG 7.5 FREE Edition

I've not used a keygen..or "serial box" as one is called..How do they work? I bought the WAVES Gold bundle..jeesh it was expensive, but I have used it a lot..so I guess i got my moneys worth out of it..Still if these companies would make these at least a little less steep they might sell a lot more of them.

I still like the Yamaha SPX series outboard boxes..and for pro-tools the Sony Oxford plugs are great..but again..pricey.

A Keygen is something that generates a serial number for you to be able to use "pirated software".
