Imus - no guts

I think Imus wants to try and make it right with the the Rutgers Team. Anyways how did this get way out of hand in the first place. This should have been a case in which it was between the Rutgers team and Don Imus. Instead you have some people who think that all whites are racist and are just waiting until they can attack. Mr. Jackson and Sharpton should just look in their past history in which lays the mistakes they made. If sharpton did not have a radio show would he be doing what he's doing? I'm not sure I think so. I did hear that sharpton is going to protest with signs at the radiothon on Friday. What a horrible thing to do. So while Don is interviewing a kid with cancer sharpton and his idiot buddies are going to picket. Who does sharpton think he is!!!!!!!! If I spelled sharpton name's wrong thats to bad.

Imus had made a pledge to Clarence Page of the Chicago Tribune back in 2001 NOT to do these kinds of RACIST comments again. IMUS LIED. He needs to be fired now.

What kind of nonsense are you people trying to get at by saying having a radiothon cleanses of him of all his RACIST remarks. FIRE HIM. NBC and CBS can donate to his charity and make up every dime and more that it would take in. HE'S A RACIST and he can't reform (and Clarence Page has the proof).

This isn't about Sharpton. Get it through your head. Imus went to HIM. Blame Imus, not Sharpton.

I say again this is NOT about Sharpton and Jackson and for the record they do NOT tink that all whites are racist, that is about as ignorant as it gets. Imus wants to make things right between he and the Rutgers team? you think? Imus wants to make it right because he got caught and there is no way that he can do any sort of damage control without their blessing. I was actually watching the Rutgers press conference today and I thought ; HE is F'ed, period. They buried him essentially without even mentioning by name that often. DO not let the issue become obscuured like you obviously have, it is NOT ABOUT SHARPTON OR JESSE JACKSON, IMUS DID TTHIS TO IMUS.

Imus has a long standing rep behind the scenes of racist comments, anyone who has worked with him knows that. He just finally showed his true colors on air and he is bieng held accountable for it, Sharpton didnt do anything but call him on his BS, period. Dont blame Sharpton for Imus's ignorance and his arrogance in thinking he could ge away with what he's done.

I don't think you get it. This should between Don and the Rutgers Team. It was a joke that went way beyond what it should have been. He does not and should be fired. The two suspension is fine. The promise he made in 2001 was not broken in my opinion because it was a misplaced joke. Don is not racist. It was a racist statement which is totally different. Wonder why people are going over to paid radio. At least the PC police are not on there. Lastly for those who say this is not a sharpton and jackson event your kidding yourself. Sharpton is the biggest idiot of them all by allowing Don on his show. Meanwhile when Don asked sharpton to go on his show sharpton said he has boycotting Don Imus. Talk about talking out of two mouths. This country needs to get its priorities straight and stop thinking were in the 1960's. It's 2007 and there is no segregation in this country. I still think this is more of a Dem vs. Rep. thing. Everyone grow up and get over it.

Well here is the thing Klinker: I KNOW you dont get it. Sharpton and Jackson did not make Imus say what he said, they are just reacting to it. He did it and you want to absolve him entirely with the "Oh those people can't take a joke" rationale. "Don" isnt a racist? and you know this how? ever worked with the man? Ive said before it is known that he is bigoted behind the scenes which is also just a part of who he is, he's an old man from the old school. Ever met him? or worked with him? then you cant make a statement like "Don's not a racist" this is all Al Sharpton's fault. My biggest problem is with guys like YOU whose only frame of reference for someone being "racist" is the "N" word. Meaning unles someone actually says the "N: word, unless you hear THAT WORD IN PARTICULAR you cannot even imagine that someone or something is "racist". Is he a racist in the sense of burning a cross on somebody's lawn? NO of course not but that does not mean he does not harbor racist, or bigoted views, which he does. That's it, end of debate.

Did Sharpton make Cal Ripkin distance himself from him? did Sharpton make Staples and a few big agency buys go away?. You all want to whine about "freedom of speech" which in this case is the biggest crock of an argument. OK let's go with the "freedom of speech" argument, well you're right DOn has the freedom to say whatever he likes, and guys like Sharpton and Jackson and not just black activists, NOW which is mostly a white organization are excercising their right to free speech by criticising what he's said.

SO why are you not defending Sharpton's right to free speech? why is his any less legitimate than "Don"/. If you try to fly the "freedom of speech" flag but you'renot happy about what the opposition has to say under the same freedom of speech, guess what? YOU'RE A HYPORCITE, give it a rest.

Imus may or may not be a racist, who really cares. Racist hold jobs all over the country and all over the world...so what are you going to do about it. NOTHING!

Everyone now needs to SHUT THE F UP about this. It was a joke. Humor..remember that? Anyone? Its been around a long time. If you don't agree then you need to have your head examined. All Imus did was use an adjective to describe their hair. Nothing more. And you know what...white people have nappy hair too. Yep...I have friends with nappy hair and we make jokes about it.

We also make jokes about fat people, blondes, asians, latins and anyone we want because thats what humor is. Anyone who has NOT told a joke about a certain group of people, well congratulations but i seriously think you are lying to yourself. We make jokes about latins having a lot of kids, asians being bad drivers, blondes being dumb and fat people being fat. Everyone does it and Imus gets paid to do it. Just like comics, just like rappers, just like edgy talk show hosts. You see it on SNL, In Living Color, Chappelle, Mind of Mencia et.

Now tell me whats so different about this?

He made racist remarks about SPECIFIC women of color with degrading, sexist, racist remarks. Do you understand that?

People aren't going to SHUT UP about this. Imus must be REMOVED from his job PERMANENTLY. NBC and CBS can NOT profit from continuing to have a racist morning show that degrades defenseless, powerless minorities and women.

You're reasoning is about as bad as it gets. Get racial sensitivity training now.

I know I posed the quesiton in another thread but I'm going to keep doing it until someone answers the question. What in the name of God is funny about having referred to these young women as "hos". Do any of you guys who defend this crap have sisters or wives?

Ten minutes before his comment about Rutgers, he called his wife the "Green Ho."

Was that racist? Why is there no outcry over that?

Why are you all so selective in what constitutes defamatory commentary? He called Bill Richardson a "fat sissy." Richardson laughed.

He called Ben "Nighthorse" Campbell, a full blooded native American "that guy from F Troop." Campbell chuckled and came on his show.

The Rutgets comment was a joke gone wrong. Nothing more. Not racist, just racial. There is a big difference.

And I ask again the question the Imus fans won't and can't answer...what in the name of God is FUNNY about calling a group of young accomplished black women..."natty-haired hos"?

still waiting....

Nothing is funny about it. That's why it was a failed attempt at humor.

But this was not a pre-produced piece, and he was not reading from a script. Again, it was a two second comment during a 10 minute segment.

If this had been written out ahead of time, and approved by him, then it would be different. But it was not. It was just a stupid comment. He made a mistake that lasted two seconds. The response has been a mistake that has lasted far longer.

You're really grasping now. It's irrelevant whether it was pre-produced or not...he SAID it. And if it wasn't racist...I can't imagine what comment could possibly be racist. And even Imus admits he was way over the line...not a little over the line...way over. Stop defending the indefensible--I think you're smarter than that. And you know what? I would have some sympathy with your argument if it were the first time. But it isn't. Not even close. He took an on-air pledge in 2000 to stop making racist remarks. Words do matter. Examplary young women who deserved the media exposure Imus stole from them, were hurt. Imus needs to do what all the conservative politicians are always urging the whole world to do--take responsibility, and yes, that means paying a substantial price. Period.

These things are all nothing more than a diversion! Every few weeks it's something else.
As far back as that OJ Simpson s**t, it never lets up. The Duke Lacrosse team, Anna Nicole Smith, the Minnesota football team, and now the great Don Imus episode! Believe it or not, they are all diversions away from bigger, more important business.

Racism isn't bigger, more important business to discuss in America? Did I miss something?

No No No Z100, WHY DO YOU THINK THE REV AL SHARPTON IS EVEN INVOLVED IN THIS THING? becuase people like YOU think that things like racism are "not important business" . God forbid one you if you should find yourself on the receiving end of soem sort of real descrimination then you'll understand but until then maybe you should just shut up. You dont think it is importnat so I suggest that YOU move on and do not participate in the diolougue, but no you cant can you?. Imus blew it, and enough with the " Come on it was just a joke" The fact that you would bring up OJ says it all, you have some serious bigoted thoughts in that head, Im sure you'll say "No way, there they go again" but anyone who would equate Oj which im sure you're still pissed about and the Duke Lacrosse team with this situation? talk about a diversion. Your post screams "why wont those pesky blacks stop whining about everything", is that what you meant? becuase that is what your post SAYS.

Dude, I doubt you're some racist guy, I dont think you are, if anything you're just kind of arrogant and live in your own world. That means you're probably just like the majority of people in the country who dont have any frame of reference for this sort of thing. Why? becuase you've nevver experienced any sort of real hardship based on anything you could not control, like your skill level or your experience. Let me ask YOU a question: Ever been turned down for a job after an interview? yeah you have it's radio we all have.lol. When you left did you ever wonder if it was becuase you were good enough? or if it was something elsee?. Listen, you will never have to wonder if it was something else, ever. Whenever you hear "no" You know it's becuase you werent the right guy becuause of your skill level, or because they found someone a little better than you, that's it. YOu'll never ever hhave to wonder if anything else was involved,....... nice isnt it?. Dont get me wrong, Im not saying that every minority that applies for a gig and doesnt get it deserved it, there are plenty of medicore people out there no matter where theey come from, I mean it's radio...lol. But YOU lack the ability to see beyond your own experience, to see that someone elses experience may color their world view. So what appears just a "joke" to you, does not sit the same way with someone else, and obviously it IS a big deal man,..Do you think Staples ( a corproation that could not care less about anything besides profit) would cancel their advertising on Imus if it was NOT a big deal?. Listen all Im saying is that if you're going to make statements like "Its the same old thing OJ, the Duke Lacrosse team etc" then you should at ;east be honest about WHY you feel this way. Lots of people are kinda bigoted and dont even really know it or dont want to acknowledge it, it's a weakness and who wants to see their weaknesses?.

Imus touched a nerve with a lot of people who do not normally get paid attention to in terms of their feelings. So what is just a joke to you, goes a lot deeper to some and that does not make them wrong. What dont you get about that?.

I don't even want to hear it. In the 80s I worked for an urban station. I was the only white guy. Sorry, but you are preaching to the choir--:))

Last night a commentator on KTLA in Los Angeles said that this has become one of Don Imus' greatest publicity coups. Look what's happened. Since his remark, Imus been on several talk shows, newspapers all across the country are writing about him and he's getting blogging space like he's never had before.

See this article: (http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/...ll=chi-newsnationworld-hed&ctrack=2&cset=true).

And it's all do to the efforts (however unintentional) of Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson. In fact, I don't doubt that when he does meet with the Rutgers team, Imus will personally thank them for what has occurred.

I worked for The Beat in Los Angeles during the Rodney King inspired riots in Los Angeles and I'm a white guy, too. I've been through it all.

You are 100% right. Anderson Cooper spent almost 2 hours on CNN talking about Imus. The only thing on any of the so called "news channels" was Imus or Anna Nicole.

As for racism, I challenge mostb1 to read this recent New York Times article:

http://www.nytimes.com/2006/03/20/national/20blackmen.html?ex=1300510800&en=57e0d1ceebcbc209&ei=5090

Don Imus should be the least of our concerns.

If any good comes out of this, it's that Imus comments brought racism (and for many of you your true Archie Bunker selves) out from the shadows.

Imus has to go. He's damaged goods now. He's railroad salvage. He can't ever be himself again - a racist.

So, no, Imus is not the least of our concerns. He's part of what concerns many when it comes to racism, sexism and homophobia and profiting from it. FIRE HIM NOW.
