IMUS NOT THE ONLY BIGOT

C

Casablanca

Guest
The formerly syndicated in New York talk show freak, Jay Severin, is now Boston's burden. Imus cannot hold a candle to this guy's racism in attacking our present Governor, Deval Patrick, who is an Afrrican-American.
Since Severin [ Severino] is a New York native it is something the readers on the New York Board should know.
Bad enough we have to deal with the NY Yankees, you now send us this bigot.

Mancow, is now on in Providence ( Chicago Bigot ) . Maybe on his way to Boston .

It's true that Imus isn't the only bigot. But he is the one who is in the HOT SEAT right now.

After reading the comments of many on this board, there are plenty of bigots posting here.

So where's the protest against Miss Jones? She thought the tsunami was funny, never mind that hundreds of thousands died. I guess being black gives her a pass to bash Asians.

Why? Because we have opinions that oppose yours?

::)

Archie Bunker couldn't have said it better (with a straight face, no less).

Ciao,

Try as you might, you wont justify what Imus said by bringing up Miss Jones. And you might want to talk to your doctor about a memory-enhancing prescription. There was a huge outcry against the entire Miss Jones show, which included a large-scale advertising pullout and several firings--which is exactly what should happen on the Imus show.

I always thought that being able to express your views, even if others disagree with you, was one of the great things about this country. I guess if Imus had said that Rutgers performance was top notch, then went into his alledgedly off base comment, it would have made it easier to digest. Perhaps we'll see talk radio veer off into non controversial bland vanilla programming now, much like the music stations have done. I mean really, how dare we do or say anything to offend anyone. Yes I know, I best get back on my meds.

Yes, Uncle Bozzle, everyone has the right to express their views--you and I are doing it now. However, there is nothing in the Constitution that guarantees any of us a right to a talk show. And I don't want to shock you too much, but it's a fact that if you dial around the radio in most areas of this country--certainly in the large metropolitan areas--you can find hosts and callers expressing their views on all kinds of controversial subjects, without at any time referring to accomplished young women as "natty-haired hos". I truly feel sorry for you that it takes remarks such as those for you to be a satisfied radio listener. And yes, perhaps some sort of medication is the answer.

Imus made his comment about the Rutgers players and then, 20 seconds later, was heaping compliments on the UT players, most of whom are also black.

Tell me...in those 20 seconds, did he suddenly change from being a racist and a bigot?

His comments were wrong, and inappropriate, but they were not racist, nor is he. They were three words in a longer sports segment. Some things need to be put in context.

If his comments weren't racist...what the hell IS racist? Help me here.

If I make a comment about Rose O'Donnell, saying she's looking a lot more butch these days, is that an anti-gay comment?

If I make a comment that Pacman Jones looks like a typical hip hop gangster thug, am I being racist?

When hip hop artist call other blacks n**gers, are they racists?

A comment can be racial without being racist. If I tell a joke with an anti-semitic punchline, that doesn't make me an anti-semite. People do joke about other races, ethnicities and religions without being bigoted towards them. As someone said earlier, it was a joke (a lame attempt at being funny). Don't make it out to be more than that.

I'm still waiting for someone to tell me what was in any way funny about Imus' "lame attempt at humor". You got the lame part right, but where was even an attempt at humor? It was just mean--if there was anything remotely funny there, please enlighten me as to what it was. I've only asked this question about 50 times already, and the fact that no one can answer, is sooooooooooo telling.

I'm not going to get into a debate with you about what is and isn't racist about particular remarks--that isn't the purpose of this board. But I will say that it's unfair and ridiculous to talk about what blacks say amongst themselves in regard to the N word. Any child of ten knows that the context of humor is much different within one's own racial or peer group, and this applies to all of humanity--not simply black people.

Example: If you are a life-long friend who jokes with me about the fact that I have put on a few pounds lately, I'll take it as a friendly jab, which it most likely is. If someone who I don't know, comes up to me out of nowhere and calls me a fat pig, it's an entirely different situation. Same joke--a different context--which changes EVERYTHING.

Think about it.

Agreed.

And if he had simply said, out of nowhere, the Rutgers basketball team is a bunch of nappy haired hos, then I'd be the first calling for his firing.

But he didn't.

He made his unfortunate comment during a long, ad libbed segment, in which he insulted his wife, complimented the Tennessee players, and basically ripped everyone associated with sports, including his sportscaster.

If his remarks had been planned, and pointed then I'd have a different opinion. But to make this much out of two seconds of off the cuff, unplanned comments is ridiculous.

You're still in denial. He made the remarks and yes they were planned. A thought to make the remarks was born in his head, he said them, and now you feel he should be absolved of responsibility. You're smarter and better than this. Time to give it up.

Ya know what, im sick and tired of every Al Sharpton, Miss Jones and Jessie Jackson in this country being given a carte blanche pass to be a bigot not just to their own people, but to other races, creeds, religions and gender preference. Either you give everyone the same free pass or noone gets one, simple enough. In addition, Al is nothing but a two bit poverty pimp hustler whos only real experience was being the road manager for James Brown. Who gave this man the right to speak on social issues?

Do note, I dont agree with what Don said. Noone should be out there taking pot shots at these women, eventhough they do look tough and have some serious 'nap.

Don Imus is a brash, outspoken, over-the-top radio host. But he is not a racist. He criticizes anyone and everyone with equal vigor. He made a stupid, out-of-order comment, and he has apologized sincerely for the remark. That should be enough.

He should not have to denigrate himself further — and certainly not to the Rev. Al Sharpton, who has his own closet full of skeletons going back to Tawana Brawley.

Let’s not forget Mr. Imus’s ranch in New Mexico for children with cancer or his effort to raise money for a rehabilitation center for wounded veterans in San Antonio, to name just two items worthy of praise.

He has done more than most in giving to those in need and should be applauded for it. Let’s move on.

That's the thing many people might not realize. Imus really didn't mean to be racist and insulting. He was joking. I'm not pardoning him for his words, but it wasn't his intent to hurt these amazing women.

The one good thing that has come out of this is the latest debate on racism and sexism. Many of us have gotten used to stuff like this and don't think much about it, but it's about time we 'clean the air' of language like this, even if it's only joking and minor bantering.

Just because he has a radiothon for Children with cancer yearly gives him a pass for his sexist, racist remarks against women and minorities? GIVE ME A BREAK.

Then why doesn't every broadcast company just give millions of dollars to some charity and let any of their hosts say whatever the hell they want no matter who it hurts or defames? "Hey, we'll get a pass since we do good once a year". That's what you are saying. Pathetic.

It's not your call of when to say "lets move on". That is both up to the Rutgers team and now, since Imus went on Sharpton's show, the elected and some cases self-annointed African American leaders in America.
