Info, while i usually enjoy reading your posts i have to say...you totally missed my point.it wasn't about stu....who i also believe was an incredibly hard working kid.by the way....he was named "stu" when he was an intern for kc 101 about 8 months BEFORE he worked with glenn...I know this because i am friends with "stu" he actually got the name at a bar night at tail gators in ansonia.this isn't about glenn making it because of stu...it is about 2 things...1. people love to bitch about the sad state of radio yet nobody seems willing to bust their balls to go somewhere...it is much easier to point blame at corporate radio...don't get me wrong....corporate radio share holders and certain groups are killing the biz...BUT, let's go back about 8 or 9 years when jocks were taking out ads in trades and in all access etc... to promote their VT'ing there were TONS of jocks there feeding the soon to be corp. market managers the idea that ONE could be on many, many stations for a very little amount of money....then we can see the lack of talent around today...just my opinion but I don't really think most of these vt'ers are tallented either. they seem rushed to get it done so they can move on to whatever is next.2. those like the PLR morning show that seem to half a$$ it each morning by simply doing the same old lame bit day after day after day will bite it....i personally think that they take a HUGE dip in the spring and worse in the fall....because the bring NOTHING of interest to the table day after day. they only have numbers cause there is nothing else for that demo.KUDOS to who ever decided to bring Imus to New Haven....PERHAPS we will see a change in the way those LAZY idiots execute their show.....BUT, I doubt it.
I can agree with you on many of your points. Infact, same old, same old is the reason I gave up on listening to morning shows years ago. Howard Stern comes to mind, he hasn't been shocking or innovative since atleast the mid 1990s. I can also accept that a percentage of air talent is to blame for the spread of voice tracking.
Your right, it's not about Glenn, but Glenn happened to be the example given. My whole gripe with Glenn is he doesn't work as hard as it might seem since he relies so much on cheap shots and inuendo. I will credit Glenn with being a good orator. He's fairly polished with his presentations and the Easter story set to Dark Side of The Moon is Awesome.
An example where hard work didn't pan out as far as radio was concerned is Tom Scott. Tom was a great local personality. Unlike some of the other local guys who stuck to the national or larger state issues, Tom was well versed in state politics. People used to call his show and talk about local zoning issues and such and Tom was right with it. Other local talent usually avoided such. I didn't always agree with Tom either, but I respected his program as he conducted his program more consistantly with what he preached. Same goes for syndicated host Sean Hannity. I don't agree with a lot of his views, but he puts more effort, compared to others, into sticking to issues and avoiding cheap attacks, the hate Hannity line doesn't count as those people chose to make themselves sound foolish. Now if only he would challenge Ann Coulter on her views.
I didn't know Stu all that well, by the time I really got to Radio Towers Park, he was on his way out. I didn't intend to imply that Glenn gave him the name Stu, simply that Glenn never took the time to ask what his name is. I can understand confusion, as with people using their radio name so often, there were times I had to stop and think to remember someone's real name.
Besides, with the Imus thing, this is one time where we can't really blame Clear Channel as in the Register story, Jerry says he accepted an offer from DRC, so he chose to move on, Clear Channel needs to fill the airtime with something. Since Clear Channel foolishly cut Paul Pacelli last year, they have no choice but to resort to a syndicated show to save their hide.
I hope Jerry does well at DRC. Now that he's no longer handling programming duties ontop of show prep, I'm hoping his new show will be able to delve deeper into things than it has on WELI.
