I have read these post for awhile and recently I decided to post my own comments. Their are still a lot of great air people in Indianapolis. Now, I will grant you that traffic reports have gone down hill every since I stopped doing traffic many years ago.LOL
Nevertheless, their are many great air people left in Indy. The track sounds better than ever, solid mornings and Tom Berg is very smooth. On KLU, ZPL alumni, Crystal and Jeff Lewis are about as consumate pros than you can fine anywhere, I know I worked with them both. Bernie Eagan, Eric Garnes, Scott Wheeler have always been excellant. Now, ZPL has a great lineup, Dave Decker has always been a true pro very smooth and Kelly McKay is one of the few personalities we have left in the city. I dont know him, but Steve O'Brien on Jack sounds real good, Laura Steele on Q, is someone I could listen to and look at all day long. So, this is my take and defense of Indy radio. Anyone disagree?

I agree. And while winning awards is sometimes as much about politics as talent, the CMA has been right on in its past awards recognition of JD Cannon, and Jim Denny - Kevin Freeman on the Country giant.

I'm not sure Indianapolis lacks talent as all; what I believe is more lacking is programming creativity. The radio programming choices/creativity, for example, in Cincinnati is much better than the fairly safe/mainstream choices PDs/Mkt Mgt/owners are making here. You scan the dial here, and do not hear much diversity in music programmed, or much difference in the presentation regardless of format. Scan the dial in Cincy, and local radio definitely has a satelite radio sound, at least in terms of unique music choice and unique presentation.
 
Well, I suppose we all have an opinion. But, I disagree with yours. Maybe the problem is in programming or maybe the medium is in its mature stage and on the decline now. Just my 2-cents worth. By the way, is this the Commander? :eek:

Didn't I read somewhere that Kelly actually moved to North or South Carolina and is doing her show from there now?

Yes Kelly McKay is doing her show from her home in the carolinas via ISDN. Just Like Paul Poteet does the morning show from the channel 6 studios with Smiley
 
Paul's no stranger to that...back in the mid 90's when I was with WGLM in Lafayette, he did his afternoon show from his house in Carmel every day except Monday when he was in the studios and did our weekly station promos.

The good Commander did traffic. ENS, ZPL or "Experience 98"...always one of the best.

As for me? I only read lists of accidents.

The Commander and the Traffic Diablo hehe now if we can dig up the legend Reb Porter on to Radio-Info

I Believe the only ol skool Traffic person left in Indy is Mimi Pearce. Rich and brian have moved on to better things, JoAnn Klooz is working at an indy hospital somewhere i believe in PR after leaving Emmis and Metro, dont ever knew what happened with Greg Cooper/Jay carson of WKLR fame and Ken Hayes of WENS Fame

The last I heard from Reb was at the Pacer game when he kept calling Jermaine ONeal, Jennifer ONeal a moment few people will forget. lol

Ken Hayes works for one of the airlines at the airport. He still has the first dime he ever made and wont part with it. I was compelled to responed after reading extreme criticism about the air people here in Indy. Their are some great broadcasters here in Indy.

As for "Diablo?" Anymore, it takes a special event for me to contribute around here. And for the sake of complete disclosure, it was Rich McDonald who gave me the "Johnny Diablo" name for traffic on the old WQFE.

As for Cooper, wasn't he co-listing agent on Reggie Miller's 7.5 million dollar Fortville mansion?

Thank you. My, I worked in Muncie around 20 years ago. It seems I run into the former GM for WLBC about twice a year. We always seem to be crossing paths for some reason.

Besides, Rich, Cooper, Mimi, Brian, Reb, John and Ken. wasnt Blair Shannon one of the originals that made it to the Traffic Plaza we call Metro (Yes I Know techically John and Mimi Didnt actually go on to work for Metro.

I Know years after Coop and Ken moved On. Max Miller, Adam Ritz, Dave Decker and Scott Roddy all put in time at Metro on the side. Scott baker splits time these days between Metro and ZPL still

Mike, You would be tough in a trivia contest. How can you remember that? Your right, Blair Shannon who is Susan Smith moved to Florida to do Radio in Miami.
Paul Poteet was the manager before Max for several years. They just dont come any finer than Paul.

Young Adam did afternoon traffic for ZPL and then drove to the studio and did the evening shift. I guess Adam isnt so you anymore. lol

Both Scott Roddy and Dave Decker were born to be on the air. They are just so smooth, I cant recall any bad breaks from either of them. Truly marveled working beside Decker every morning just a real smooth broadcaster. Dont tell them I said that though. lol

Max Miller...well...no comment.

Oh, dont forget Jeff Daniels who went on to work for WGRL overnights and Barb Dunham and of course Brian Stevens, the man is real good on air, I trained him well. lol I dont think I know Scott Baker?

lets not forget bout Current WXIN Traffic Guy and WNDE Sports Anchor Bill Remicka also put in some time at metro as well. LOL We could put a list of people who put some time in at metro to this current date if we tried here in Indianapolis
