Indianapolis: CBS Moving from WISH to WTTV 1/1/2015

I keep wondering if the long game here is that Tribune expects the CW to go away, or at least, doesn't care if it does.

As far as WISH, maybe they would do news in prime? Like, at least a 9 PM newscast? And maybe even an 8 PM? Those are the only times between 4 PM and 11:35 PM that there isn't a newscast scheduled on at least one station. I really don't think there is enough news in Indy, but that hasn't stopped everyone from producing endless hours of it anyway.

Does anyone think they would try to pick up Univision again?

Weigel Broadcasting Chicago has 1 full power station (WCIU) & 2 LPTV stations (one being a Class A digital, WMEU-CD in 720p HD on the main channel, & 1 LPTV, due to the Class A that's attached to the companion license is still analog, WWME-LD), & I say that if Weigel were to pick up CW, if around, it would most likely go on WMEU-CD in HD, & simulcasted on WCIU 26.2 for where WMEU-CD has no signal, rather than on WCIU 26.1. Besides, say that it did go on WCIU 26.1, CW programming would be in 720p HD (CW is in 1080i & they prefer their affiliates to run it in 1080i), since Weigel isn't going to eliminate the MeTV simulcast on 26.3 (main MeTV channel is WWME-LD 23.1), MeToo on 26.4 (currently simulcasted from WWME-CA 23), & Bounce on 26.5, nor will they eliminate the simulcast of WMEU-CD 48.1 on WCIU 26.2 either. If Weigel turned it down completely, then maybe Fox owned WPWR-TV might have dual affiliation on 50.1, with MNT programming for 2 hours, then CW primetime in the other 2 hour timeslot, then squeezing in an hour of CW daytime during the week. That might be CW's best bet to stay available in Chicago, by affiliating with WPWR-TV, since Fox doesn't try to program that station good anymore. I still say CW will never be on WCIU 26.1, but maybe WMEU-CD 48.1 in HD/WCIU 26.2 (so a digital subchannel is only half true if Weigel affiliated with CW, as the main station would be a Class A station).

Fox wants nothing to do with its stations carrying the CW, so WPWR is out of the question. This means that WGN will probably stick with the CW.
 
If the CW does end up on KCAL in LA, look for those shows to air late-night or sprinkled throught early evening weekends. No way they give up the massive cash cow that is their prime time news.
 
I might have read somewhere that WGN was willing to give up the CW to go back to independent and be more local instead of a network. Maybe I'm wrong.

And that is true about KCAL. KDOC could possibly carry the CW if KTLA were to give it up.
 
If WPIX 11 drops the CW and CBS-owned WLNY TV 55 ends up picking up the CW's programs that would be a massive downgrade in the CW's national ratings which is behind NBC and Univision at best. I do not see the CW lasting until September 2016 at best. Looks like we'll have ABC, CBS, Fox, NBC, PBS, Ion, Telemundo, Univision, Mundo Fox and My Network TV as networks and the CW will fade away after such promise that was expected back in 2006 when the WB and UPN merged into one network.

Yep I agree, it looks like most of the CW stations, and MyNetworkTV stations, will either go independent, or just shut down their operations altogether.

I doubt that The CW will end up on KCAL, I see them moving to Orange County based KDOC-TV Channel 56, the only change will be the newscast, the KABC-Produced newscast on that station will move to 10pm, outside of that nothing else changes.
 
I won't be surprised if, within the next two to three years, there are only five truly competitive broadcast networks: ABC, CBS, Fox, NBC, and Univision. Believe it or not, Univision ranks fifth among the broadcast networks, and that's ahead of the CW. Last time I looked, CBS was first, followed by NBC, ABC, Fox, Univision, and the CW. I didn't see any ranking for MyNetwork or Ion (source: USA Today).

That's what happens when one network is half-owned by another, much bigger network with no interest in building its own competitor. In retrospect, the CW's fate was sealed from the start. The sad thing is I think a true fifth network could have worked and maybe still could work, but...

...at this point this might be the best thing for them, and for TV as a whole. Or at least it would be, if it weren't for the myriad other obstacles...

Those olden days are gone, and to the extent you could go back to them (and assuming you mean "when broadcasting ruled"), a single measly half-hour each weekday wouldn't be nearly enough, not least because it wouldn't get at the root of why those afternoon cartoons went away in the first place. You'd need to correct the regulatory insanity that so stacks the deck in favor of cable that even broadcast stations themselves (at least the ones owned by huge conglomerates) see themselves as just another kind of cable channel.
 
Well, Cable will cut back on the number of channels due to the fact of too many channels and showing the same program up to 5-6 times a week will get old and people will lose interest in shelling out $50 a month for reruns.

Yeah, and the only reason why I have cable is for Sports, news, and weather outside of that I would have no reason to have cable

I don't have a need for cable either. I agree with 5-6 channels running the same program. Look at Family Guy. They're on Fox, syndication (if not on Fox), TBS, and Adult Swim. I think the one that holds the record is That 70's Show. They're on syndication, ABC Family, MTV, MTV2, TeenNick, and I think a couple of others no thanks to Viacom. I know they're so popular but seriously, The Simpsons, Seinfeld, or any other classic show of your favorite doesn't get aired on that many channels!
