Indianapolis: CBS Moving from WISH to WTTV 1/1/2015

LIN should be studying WJXT in Jacksonville hard. I bet WISH will pick up some of the syndicated programming from WTTV.
Why ?? They could simply pick up the CW affiliation. WJXT didn't have that option when CBS left it

KRON 4 would be a better example to study - As to what NOT to do

I think it could happen, because KDNL hasn't done any better since Sinclair renewed its affiliation agreement with ABC back in 2010. to me KDNL is an independent station, I don't consider them as an ABC affiliate, so other than KPLR, and maybe KTVI I don't see anybody within the St. Louis market interested in being an ABC affiliate
Fox is NOT going to give up KTVI 2. You can BANK on THAT !! As for KPLR 11, I don't think Fox will care less

As for KDNL, IF it remains an ABC affiliate, I would look for them to insist it be sold to someone like Scripps (Most likely since they own NBC affiliate KSHB 41 in KC) or Hearst (Who owns KMBC 9 in KC)

and KFOR going to Fox
Err.....KFOR 4 is the NBC affiliate in Oklahoma City. Don't think they'll go anywhere. Besides, all that would do is make KOKH 25 the NBC affiliate

True, such a move would create a Fox/MyNet duo but I seriously doubt Fox is really interested in that in Oklahoma City

On top of that, the ONLY thing Oklahoma City has going for it other than an NBA franchise is College Football. If Fox loses their NBA bid (Which I predict they will), they won't make a move at all

I can defintely see Tribune dropping all CW affiliates to go independent within the coming years. The CW can find other homes (New York: WLNY/55, LA: KCAL/9, Chicago: WCIU/26, Dallas: KTXA/21, etc--the list could go on. Only ones I'm thinking that won't probably move would be the ones like in Houston, New Orleans, Miami, or DC).
The CW is already on CBS O&O KTXA 21. It can't move to a station its already on.....
As for KFOR, that move makes just as much sense as Fox moving down to WOAI in San Antonio and NBC going to KABB. In other words, that is highly unlikely. Now if Oklahoma City were to have an NFL team in the NFC conference, then that would be more likely (that's the word in San Antonio about the Raiders possibly moving from Oakland btw, however, it wouldn't matter since the Raiders are an AFC team and CBS affiliate KENS probably won't be worried about that if they do move).
My point exactly :)
Another Tribune statement: Do you think WPHL/Philly is fine with MyNetworkTV?
They're gonna have to be. The others are all O&O's (And the CW affiliate is owned by CBS)

JMO.....

The CW is capable of surviving a Tribune exodus. There will be stations in the affected markets that will gladly take it. Case in point, MyNet station WKTC jumped at the CW affiliation when ION bought WZRB.
And here in the Denver area, there's a chance (Albeit remote) that KWGN 2 could snap up the Fox affiliation, buy KDVR 31 outright & possibly lure MyNet away from Gannett & KTVD 20 to put on KDVR 31

Again, a REMOTE possibility, but possible nonetheless

I live in Dallas. The CW is NOT on KTXA (currently)! It's on Tribune-owned KDAF. KTXA is a CBS-owned independent station similar to KCAL in Los Angeles and WLNY in New York.

On your other post about why won't WJXT and WISH go to the CW? WJXT has a strong news department after dropping CBS and is pretty much fine running as an independent station. The last thing they need is a crummy small affiliate like the CW to take over their primetime slots. Besides I'm sure their current CW station WCWJ is fine and probably the reason why WJXT didn't pick up MNTV was to just stay local (MNTV is on a subchannel in Jacksonville).

WISH and KRON would probably think the same thing too. That's why KRON airs MNTV shows late at night instead of during primetime. If anything I'm sure KRON is happy to return to independent after MNTV would move to KICU after being bought by Fox.

KTXA is actually independent, and WLNY's signal barely reaches New York City.

Fox has already unloaded KTVI. Local TV, which has since sold to Tribune, bought it several years ago. Of course, the deal came with a 10 year Fox affiliation. Plus, Tribune probably wants Fox in the Rams' home market....unless they pack up and move back to LA.

Probably Hearst should look at buying KDNL because then they would match with KMBC,and they'll be like what KCTV/KSMO/KMOV are. Only difference is that both KMBC, and KDNL are ABC affiliates while KCWE is the CW affiliate whereas KCTV, and KMOV are CBS affiliates, and KSMO is a MyNetworkTV affiliate. Probably when Sinclair is negotiating with ABC, the network will tell Sinclair sell KDNL, because a lot of media companies like Tribune, and Meredith all own stations on both sides of Missouri, Hearst and Scripps are the only ones who doesn't have that, but I insist on Hearst buying KDNL because they own an ABC station in Kansas City, they would purchase another one. So it would make a lot of sense for Hearst to buy KDNL than Scripps, but with Scripps they're known to help launch news departments like KNXV/Phoenix, and WFTS/Tampa so it would make even more sense for Scripps to buy KDNL because of their past experiences back in the mid 90s when they helped launch news departments at KNXV/Phoenix, and WFTS/Tampa, so yeah I'd say KDNL will get sold to Scripps.

Fox gave up KTVI years ago, Pat. They sold it to Local TV LLC in either 2007 or '08; Local TV was in turn was purchased by Tribune last year, placing it in a duopoly with KPLR. KTVI stilll has an affiliation deal with Fox for the next few years, though.

KDNL will likely remain an ABC affiliate, and remain owned by Sinclair. ABC and Sinclair seem to have a good working relationship, and as long as the compensation checks clear and all network programs are cleared on KDNL, ABC likely won't worry much about KDNL's lack of newscasts.

KWGN bought KDVR outright last year when Tribune purchased the Local TV stations. They have co-habitating quite nicely with their respective affiliations/newscasts/etc. and there's no reason for any network switching. Sure, anything's possible, but highly unlikely.

I'm not so sure the CW would settle for a subchannel in Indy

JMO though.....

Cheers & 73 :D

Unless there's something in Tribune's contract that prevents CW from being on a subchannel, then CW can not do anything about their network being moved to WTTV/WTTK's subchannel. When the affiliation agreement is up in 2016 (providing the network is still around), then they could see if another station will pick up the affiliation. Tribune is doing this to keep WISH-TV from picking up the affiliation on January 1st. Tribune however will have to work out a new agreement to get CW readded to cable & satellite.

Here's a good reason why the forums for each market should include both radio and TV. Such a petty issue about one city hardly belongs in NATIONAL TV.

...and, you're making it a petty issue with all the constant bitching and moaning you do.
