Has anyone heard the rumor about Cumulus bringing their super talk format to Indy on 93.9? It will debut after the Christmas music ends on The Song with some of WXNT's hosts.

Nope...just you...and it's wishful thinking.

Jesus is the best Acoount Exec on North Shadeland.

The Song is making money impaled hand over fist, especially for its signal.

The only way SuperTalk ends up on 93.9 is if The Song is moving to the full-market signal of 104.5 when Jack is mercifully euthanized.

The Song is the only CCM format in the Cumulus list of stations.

This wouldn't be much of a surprise come January. It would be
sad... The Song has done some good things in Indy since sign on.
The talk format would take less staff...save money and bring
everything in off satellite. I don't see Jack switching.

It's a done deal. We'll see if they do local news or just air a network (Fox?) Hannity afternoons. Mancow mornings.

I think that what happens to JACK will be determined by the next Arb or two. They've made adjustments to the format and if those adjustments don't reap results, I think they'll blow it up. By me, JACK don't have a chance against KLU and FBQ. The effort just isn't there. They seem like a cheap version of either of the other stations. You've got to admit that KLU sounds pretty good and FBQ has been #1 for years...plus Bob and Tom.

Yep-apparently this is for real. Mancow mornings. Hannity in the afternoons. It'll be interesting to see if they snare any local talent from anywhere (like maybe Abdul).

Sounds like a clone of what they did with former country signal 96.5 in Cincinnati. A month or so after launch, the debate still rages as to whether or not there will be any local talent, although it's generally agreed that it's needed in order to survive.

As it currently stands, the format in Cincinnati is very generic.

However, The Song isn't the only CCM station serving Indianapolis. K-Love is a noncomm CCM format on 90.5 FM. WQME on 98.7 also covers most of Indy from Anderson University. K-Love will also soon have translator(s) on the north or northeast sides of Indianapolis to better reach the northeast side.

Has K-LOVE gone translator shopping?

I wasn't aware they had any in the Indianapolis area. There is one in Muncie set to relay WOKL / Troy, OH.

Maybe EMF has bought a few from Hensley? I can't imagine he'd sell, but perhaps to a Christian organization, if the price was right, it would be possible. Alternatively, they could have gone after Kaspar's Zionsville CP, or perhaps Friends of Christian Radio (non-profit associated with WFRN) wanted to sell a couple of their Indy-area holdings.

Kelso, You work for Emmis, so how do you know for sure what's going on at Cumulus?

So if this actually happens, how does this affect WIBC and WXNT?

No talk on 93.9

The CCM format currently running on 93.9 is an effective way to reach women 25-44. A news/talk format only attracts an older audience that Cumulus already reaches with classic rock 104.5 and country 95.5. If Cumulus does drop CCM from 93.9, it will be to go with another format that attracts much younger demos than news/talk does.

Since when did any change in format that one of these companies engage in make sense, or show any sign of logic?

Ooooh...way to out me. :-*

How does it affect WIBC and WXNT? Besides the loss of Hannity to WXNT, unknown.

And as far as what I know and how I know it, you clearly don't work in this business. Because, if you did, you'd know that everyone in radio knows someone and EVERYONE talks.

Wow, this comes as a shock. Talk Radio isn't that profitable. What the heck are they thinking?

It CAN be profitable if done well, but so far, no one in Indy does it well.

Maybe talk radio's time has come again?

Over the last few years with terrorism, the war, and political upheaval, people are interested in news and day-to-day issues again.

Music formats seem to be shooting themselves in the foot with a race to sound as much alike as possible, so maybe a "new" alternative is news/talk?

Doesn't EVERYONE officially have a talk show on XM now?

Talk radio is one of the best billing formats out there. You don't need great ratings to make $$ off talk radio. IBC has been falling in the 25-54 numbers but still is one of the highest billing stations in the market.

It doesn't even need to be 'done' right, just sold right.

I liked 93.9 better the first time I heard it when it was WXNT! Just a shame that the powers that be won't spend any money to PROMOTE XNT. If more people knew, I think it would be great. but, it is what it is and I think WXNT should go more local in the afternoons to combat the lack of Hannity. Maybe Abdul in the Afternoon? Doubtful, but worth thinking about. Also, maybe XNT could steal 950's line-up and go all-sports with a better signal. Sports makes a ton of cash is done right, but not much ratings success. Again, I would be VERY surprised, but you never know. It is the speculation and gossip that makes geeks like us excited!
