the radio graveyards are littered with people who THOUGHT they could do the SAME format better than the other 3 or 4 stations doing it, don't count on it and even IF you do, will anybody notice outside the radio community? and HOW LONG do you want to fight THAT fight? and how much do you want to lose doing it? example I-94...they MAY be better, than the competition..i don't know.. but appearantly the audience isn't willing to switch.
then there are stations that take up a format that has left, it may not work every time, but i can tell you this after more than 10 years with "Greatest Hits" the audience is PASSIONATE about it. remember when cbs-fm went to "Jack"- people were outraged when their station was taken away from them, now CBS-FM is not only BACK but getting TERRIFFIC ratings to boot. if someone takes up this format in Indianapolis and does it CORRECTLY, with a strong signal.Personality and promotion it will be in the top 2 or 3.
i'm NOT going to start an argument about "Aging" demographics, the mantra of people against this demographic has been heard over and over again, to the point that people keep saying it, hoping to make it the truth..just to say there is BIGOTRY involved and you don't want to go there... YOU too will be in this demographic sooner than you know. don't ever let them kick you to the curb as a listener. if you don't think there is POWER in this demographic look at the health care debate.
