At this point IF WTKK changes, the only all talk station would be WRKO, though keep in mind
WBZ has it 8 pm-5 am or so. Also, kinda fragmented:
--some talk shows on NPR (Rooney, Crossley, Talk of the Nation)
--some shows on Salem stations like Jay Sekulow Live
--some shows from surrounding areas--Fitchburg's WPKZ for example, Worcester's WTAG,
Prov., Manchester etc (WPKZ highlights their FM station first on their site http://wpkz.net/pages/ )
--Jeff Santos buys time on WCRN, WAZN (IIRC) etc
Salem did have all conserv talk on 1150 before it went Spanish religion. They will want their
stations to run religion etc (590/950/1150) in some form, but could you picture something
like TalkRadio590? If so it would probably be mostly their hosts (Gallagher, Praeger)
btw heard It's the End of the World as we Know it a few minutes back on WTKK and thought,
stunting? No, it was a music bed going into a promo then ads. Who knows! IQ 106.9,
formerly Harold Camping's station, did that in Philly.

In five years, should the AM band continue to deteriorate the way it is, yes, I could see WBZ scooting to FM. Right now, the Boston market is big enough that it can still support WBZ and WRKO and, up until recently, WEEI (which HAD to move to FM in light of a direct competitor in the Sports Hub) on the AM dial. It goes back to demographics. If you find someone younger than 20 who is familiar with the AM band (let alone listen to it) you have a great chance of winning the lottery. Ergo, why CBS bought another FM in NYC to simulcast WFAN – and 66AM is a 50,000 watt clear channel facility – because the dynamics of the all-sports audience dictated it.
In fact, WRKO’s signal issues probably will result in a move to FM on **their** end just to stay viable – but that station still has many, many issues that need to be worked out. If you’re mainly known for having a star personality who openly hates working for you, you’ve got problems.
