Ingraham switching some affiliates after today

What do you mean younger people wont take to talk programming? Almost every morning show on any FM in any city is what I would call talk, even hot talk. When was the last time you heard much music on an FM in morning drive? Ingraham appears to have become a difficult talent at best to deal with. She tried to muscle Salem and others, including her syndicator and lost. Her programming is also sounding a lot like the "other" Dr. Laura with her preaching and nagging. It is no longer fresh. She has blown her opportunity, in my opinion. Even Fox news channel doesnt want her much.

One might refer to all spoken word programming as "talk", but this forum is for a very specific kind of spoken word programming called "news/talk". When posters in this forum refer to "talk", they are usually using the word as short-hand for "news/talk", not just spoken-word programming in general. As for "hot talk", that is another different spoken word format, just as is "sports/talk". And based on the ratings, it does appear that the news/talk format does not appeal to younger listeners enough to make them a significant portion of the news/talk audience.

Thanks. I was wondering why Stephanie Miller has been replaced by Laura Ingraham on 540. Oh well, back to XM radio.

This whole thread puts the whole business of talk radio, what "succeeds" versus what doesn't, even conservative vs. liberal talk radio, in perspective.

Syndication is all politics -- the office kind. The best talent does not "out" and the best lineups do not win.

It appears, as of now, the only choices for those in Philly to hear Laura's show, per her web site, would be to tune in to either WABC 770 NYC to catch the show live, or WDEL 1150 Wilmington DE M-F 7pm-10pm and Sunday 8pm-10pm.

Unless they just changed the schedule, Ingraham's show is not live on WABC. They air it tape-delayed from 10 pm - 1 am. Even still, it's the largest feather in her radio cap. As for WPHT, I don't see them pitching Glenn Beck for Ingraham. That would be a big mistake (as was foolishly done in LA).

In tracking her announced clearance (not live yet) on WEOL/930 around here, I spotted THIS interesting item on Ms. Ingraham's "new stations" list...just up today.

Seattle-Tacoma KVI AM 570 3-6pm (Starts September 22nd.)

Wow. This is a big one...one of the most iconic conservative talkers, in a delayed afternoon drive clearance in a large market.

I've not seen any of this in the trade publications or anywhere, and no one's talking about it on the Seattle board. And it's not on KVI's website as of yet.

A local show is currently in the 3-6 PM slot - "The Commentators" - with station vet John Carlson and someone I don't recognize.

Yes, Ingraham will clear beginning Monday on KVI. "The Commentators"--a left/right debate show moves to KVI's sister KOMO, which lately has been all-news, but will now air talk middays, when demand for all-news tends to level off.

Yet even "News/talk" could attract a broader audience than it does, just by diversifying the presentation a bit. It's hard to imagine the format being any LESS diverse than it currently is - Rush and his ten-thousand clones... ;D

Looks like a major push is being made to take Ingraham to the next level of talkers. I wonder if she has a backer laying out big bucks to get her clearances?

Laura did clear on WEOL/930 Elyria, but with a 6pm start time (for now) instead of the slated 5p-7p slot. Apparently, there have been a few issues regarding the station dropping the final hour of Hannity.

It does set up to be an issue for the future, though. WEOL shifts over to sports coverage during the evening hours, and if she still has a 6p-8p slot, she will be pre-empted for Indians/Cavs/high-school games.

I'm sorry... but you say "clones" and I think of Jim Rome... ::)

I touch on this - WEOL and Ms. Ingraham - in my most recent update (thanks, Nathan!).

I don't have any indication that Ingraham will actually air 6-8 PM. For one, all but the first half-hour of her show will be preempted by the Indians through Thursday, and the entire show will be preempted by HSFB and pre-game on Friday.

My guess, put up on the item this evening, is that she'll move to 5-7 PM after the Indians end their season, and they'll put hour 3 of Hannity on at 7 PM. There will still be preemptions, but at least the daily Tribe action will be history after this week.

Well like Biz Listener doesn't get that Stephanie Miller beats Laura Ingraham in some key markets. For Example LA in California and a Midwestern market Columbus Ohio. He doesn't get that one Talk Radio is an niche market. Two people are tired of conservative talk radio. Just look at Salem Radio.

As a person who "works" at a radio station instead of an outsider, WCRS LPFM does niche programming to cover programs that WCBE and WOSU FM/AM doesn't air, or too scared to air. (True WCRS is low power but they do have terrestrial broadcast tower and a translator.)

Then again Biz thinks if its not broadcasting top forty music or conservative talk is a waste of signal. Then this is why he doesn't get it that terrestrial radio is failing due to uninspiring radio formats. This is why Satellite Radio is making inroads. Plus the local Progressive Talk Station in Columbus Ohio WVKO AM have more live local talk during the weekends than CC owned WTVN AM, WYTS AM (WYTS AM airs Laura Ingraham and broadcast at ONE KW of power, while WVKO AM BROADCAST AT 3200 WATTS DAYTIME.) put together.

We haven't confirmed it yet, so we aren't putting it out there YET...but it looks like the evening time slot on WEOL/930 may not be the final landing spot for Ms. Ingraham.

More in about a month...
