Interstate 107

Interstate 107 is broadcasting from their new tower a few miles closer to Charlotte. I honestly cannot notice any difference. This station fascinates me. Why do they do country? Easy to sell? You would think they would do something not done in the area in order to pull listeners from Charlotte. I live in Charlotte and if I want country it is WSOC and WKKT. However, if WRHI did Hot AC, Smooth Jazz, Active Rock, Oldies.....I think people would actually listen in South Charlotte and they may actually show up in the books. What do you think?

could be they know they can't compete in Clt, so they're playing a hot format and adding a heavy dose of localism to attract listeners they CAN reach....

WRHI's intended audience is Rock Hill, not Charlotte, thusly, they moved their tower further north to improve their signal in RH. Of course, it would have made more sense to move the tower to the northWEST, to be closer to RH, but I assume WMIT (and maybe WJMZ) precluded that. Amazingly, though I live only about 5 miles from the new 107.1 tower, I still recieve 106.9 fairly well. From what I can tell, 107's signal in RH is still pretty poor. Concerning the decision to format country, I guess the owners have determined the number one desired format in RH is probably country. I bet WSOC and WKKT still beat 107's butt there---they both have a far superior signal in Rock Hill. I suppose there is something to be said for the idea that country music fans would be the first to want to listen to a "home town" station, as opposed to the "big city" stations but WRHI's satelite format, with recorded Jerry Peterson cut-ins, does little to foster that. I expect Rock Hill, with a population of 60,000 in a county of 200,000, is an attractive advertising market, and since WRHI has NO broadcast competition, except it's AM sister station (and of course ALL the Charlotte FMs and WBT) they may still do ok. BTW, WRHI 100% simulcasts on WVSZ 107.3 in Chesterfield---a station which has recently increased it's power from 3kw to 4.5kw.

I used to like Jerry Peterson! The WSOC meteorologist? Thunder Boomers? He's still around?

I read on Wikipedia that they had Paul Harvey. Unfortunately, like a lot of Wikipedia, that seems to be wrong. I was on my way to Myrtle Beach hoping I could find a way to listen on one day without having to go to the online version days later. No such luck. In fact, my signal was messed up by a Contemporary Christian station (this was on WVSZ; I tried both).

You would think they'd do classic country. Charlotte needs it, and they'd stand out. I really like the classic country station I listen to.

I always loved to hear Mr Peterson reference a forecasted cold night as "good snuggling weather".

I learned from Jerry Petersen that when the grass is dry in the morning, rain is likely in the evening. Also, something about wooly worms but I've forgotten most of that.

Just now seeing these, but Interstate 107 is WRHM. They cater to mostly Rock Hill, Lancaster and Chesterfield. WRHI is on 1340 and 94.3 and is news / talk.

Let me introduce myself since I haven't, as of yet, taken the time. I'm Jay Taylor and I'm the morning show host on WRHI. :) I've only been hosting since November. I grew up in Gastonia, but had been throughout Georgia for the past 11 years. Needless to say, I'm glad to be closer to home.

Hope to get to know all of you!
