I wouldn't say it was "stupid". I would dsay it is very short sighted however. In todays climate, your view point is unfortunately correct, mostly. The Dj,announcer is suppose to entertain, not just be a bridge between songs. Your Bo and Jims, Wolfman Jacks, Terry Dorsey, and the entire KVIL staff from 1975-1985 knew how to entertain. That is THE role of the announcer (dj) not just read some lame written by a sales person/public service director liner card. You create, you become a character, you entertain your listeners. Unfortunately as stated before. you sold spots around a program, not program around spots as you have today. Times change but regions haven't.people want to hear their local flavor, but the corps feel one size fits all. This waters down the role of the announcer,no time to be creative, hardly any BITS that are truly funny. So eliminate that so you can have a 9-12 min spot sweep. Listenership is down and "spun" to make it seem like Ipods, the internet, and satellite are competitiors. They are,but radio corps forced the listeners out, because the entertainment value has decreased. Listening to todays announcer is akin to listening to your 8th grade science teacher talking about why birds do it,etc. The announcer should be an entertainer, not a salesperson.
