There are several counties in the Charlotte region in which Charlotte radio is obviously very dominant, but these counties are not part of the Charlotte radio market. Iredell is one example. I live two miles from the Charlotte city limits in Lancaster Co. SC and have recently discovered that Lancaster CO, is also not part of the Charlotte market. This is remarkable in that Lancaster (pop 70000) has only one radio station, an AM daytimer that plays southern gospel. I have never known any person in this county to listen to any station except Charlotte market stations. All the Charlotte FMs put a city grade signal over almost the entire county (well maybe not WEND, but it is well recieved here), as does WBT-AM. Anyone that drives US 521 in the morning or evening, fighting the tremendous traffic, can tell you that Lancaster is closely linked economically and socially to Charlotte Another county that would seem to be in line for Charlotte market status would be Stanley Co. NC.
