Iredell County

Does anyone have any information regarding the possibility
of Iredell County being added to the Charlotte Metro Survey
Area?

>I heard rumor of that about this time last year. I spoke with a friend of mine in Charlotte radio who will remain nameless that said they had received a letter from Arbitron stating they would add a county to the Charlotte Metro affective Spring 2006. The only obvious choice would be Iredell county.

I worked for WFMX doing the morning show until October 2005 and we too were told the same thing about Iredell county eventually being added to the Charlotte Metro.

It only makes sense because a lot of commuters work in Charlotte and live in Iredell county or live in Charlotte and work in Iredell county.

>Iredell county I believe is in the TSA (Total Survey Area), but NOT the metro.

There are several counties in the Charlotte region in which Charlotte radio is obviously very dominant, but these counties are not part of the Charlotte radio market. Iredell is one example. I live two miles from the Charlotte city limits in Lancaster Co. SC and have recently discovered that Lancaster CO, is also not part of the Charlotte market. This is remarkable in that Lancaster (pop 70000) has only one radio station, an AM daytimer that plays southern gospel. I have never known any person in this county to listen to any station except Charlotte market stations. All the Charlotte FMs put a city grade signal over almost the entire county (well maybe not WEND, but it is well recieved here), as does WBT-AM. Anyone that drives US 521 in the morning or evening, fighting the tremendous traffic, can tell you that Lancaster is closely linked economically and socially to Charlotte Another county that would seem to be in line for Charlotte market status would be Stanley Co. NC.

That would be Stanly County. There is no "e" in Stanly. I'm from there and if I don't correct you it will drive me crazy.

Stanly/Stanley

And another thing...

The town of STANLEY is not in STANLY County. It's in Gaston County.

A sad loss, because it's not there anymore

Here's a crazy idea...what about making Iredell and Catawba
counties a separate stand-alone market?

>I know of someone I used to work with as of late who shall remain nameless who went to Arbitron with a plan to make Iredell, Catawba, Rowan and I believe Burke counties an Arbitron rated market. Of course, they said that there was not enough population which was total BS.
