Is Alternative dead and how can it go forward?

Billie Eilish is 21 today. The list of celebrity birthdays I just saw called her "electro-pop". Really? If she's not alternative, what is?
She's not in the true definition.
Because she's a woman?
Just like Metallica isn't alternative. Are they women now?
What does because she's a woman have to do with anything. Would we classify Taylor Swift as Alternative?
I'm just curious what the "true definition" is.
Not pop or dance orientated.
If a DJ will play it at a night club it's probably not alternative.
Because Alanis uses real, crunchy electric guitar on her recordings and Billie lets computers do most of the work?
Like I said, one is more dance orientated the other isn't.
Wow, most of Billie's stuff is so depressing and stark, I wouldn't play it in a night club.

I think it's dead as a format in general.
What the heck does that mean? "Format" describes radio programming.
So when I go to a record store and I see the alternative section is that a genre of music or a radio format?
