Is Country Legends 97.1 flipping formats?

Late last month Cox Radio registered the domain "Smooth 97.1". Is a flip headed to the under achieving "Country Legend 97.1? Thought's please?

Could this be for the HD Signal??

First of all, 97.1 is a rimshot. Any format with a "Smooth" moniker is probably aimed at an urban (city) audience. The signal is inadequate for such demographics, as we found with the failure of Hot 97, and a whole batch or formats before that.

Whatever the ratings woes, the Country Legends format is probably the best choice given the demographics where the signal is best.

Perhaps if Cox decides to keep The Eagle only on 106.9, the 97.1 signal could return to a simulcast with any new format on 107.5.

If 97.1 dumps Country Legends, Cumulus should immediately pick up the format on 103.7. Won't be a ratings monster, but would do better than the current AAA effort.

The only thing Country Legends is doing is tweaking their format. I've noticed more 90s country and less 60s.

Old news... this was part of a smokescreen prior to blowing up The Point in Tampa Bay. The only real domain out of the 60+ registered that day was Hot1015TampaBay, but they registered variations of Hot, Smooth, Power, Sports, Latino and Talk for all of the Tampa frequencies, one of which happens to be 97.1.

The original poster got punked.
