Is it time for another modern rock station in Minneapolis?

Ever since May 7, 2007, Drive 105 has changed their format from modern rock to soft AC/oldies as Love 105. That meant the Minneapolis/St. Paul hasn't had a full time modern rock station in the market & the only major market besides Atlanta that hasn't had one. (That means you can't find a modern rock station on the HD2 dial there). Will an Indie 103 type of format to get Minneapolis back in the game, if it were to do so or how bout if the resurrect the Rev back from the dead? I doubt it will happen or not. I know Love 105's format has been doing better than Drive 105's format, so there's no format change anytime soon. I also doubt that 93.7 HD2 or some other Minneapolis move in could do just that. At least they'll play from everything from 80's new wave, 90's grunge, even the artists of today, & also that will play independent artists from Minneapolis, something that Cities 97 doesn't do. C'mon, Minneapolis supports local artists & I hope a format change could try to boost morale on that soon. Tell us what you think about that.

There is presently no alt. rock station in Minneapolis. The Current is sort of like KEXP/Seattle, yet Minneapolis doesn't have it's own "107.7 The End" like Seattle does. It's been over a decade since the format has graced the airwaves there, and it's way past due, especially with the heritage that market has with the format and its music historically.

The End has almost as much talk as music. (Oh, and one peek at the ratings will give you little argument for copying it anywhere.)

The fact cannot be avoided that all but a tiny handful of the top 40 U.S. rated markets have at least one commercial alt. rock station, with Minneapolis and San Antonio being the only two without one in the last 10+ years (San Antonio has never had one to my knowledge).

Minneapolis needs a dance station. It can replace 101.3 KDWB's CHR format. Maybe "Energy 101.3" or "Party 101.3".

Now THAT'S funny!

You know, I can hear KDWB up here in Duluth with my roof-mounted APS-9, and let me tell you that format is annoying. My idea is for them to put a dance format on the main channel...and maybe move their CHR to their HD-2 where nobody can hear it.

I'm sure they'll get right on that... ::)

Can you pick up the dance pirate (Liquid Radio 97.7) up there?

(this post is on the money)

It's unlikely copyable reception of Liquid Radio can be achieved in Duluth. The signal tends to hit west and south of Duluth from my obseravation. When I hit Proctor it usually fizzles out with overload noise from KQDS taking over.

As a RADIOFAN I'd love KDWB to be resurrected as modern rock.

As a SALESGUY, you couldn't beg me to sell it.

Freaky Steve will rise again!

Does the lack of KEGE mentions mean you didn't like that format when it was on in the 90s?

It's my personal opinion that the 1994-95 version of KEGE was an excellent listen. If you targeted that audience (now 30-40) with a list heavy on 80s-90s alt music with a solid stack of current music (as in today, not as in the radio station), you might even be able to sell it.

If it was on Dave's to-do list, it would work. Just don't bring back Lassman.
