Is it time for Larry King to retire?

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Time Warner should just merge the two morning shows on HLN and CNN to save them money. HLN's "Morning Express" even beats CNN's "American Morning," let along Behar beating Larry.

it's like watching Joe Franklin without the warmth, charm or charisma....

...I was a board op for King's radio show at two different Wisconsin affiliates, once in 1981 and again in 1990. He stopped having any fun doing the radio show once he began getting too comfortable doing the CNN show, circa '87. Tom Snyder in his current state can do a better job than Larry's been doing for the last 15 years...

I could use a "colortini" this evening.

Is that when he started becoming unbelievably rude to callers on his radio show? I board oped his show when I was on an AM/FM combo in 1991. The AM had an older demographic, so they were probably in bed by the time he came on. The FM had a much younger demo, but they probably wanted to hear music, so I'm sure that they switched to another station while King was on. I know I would.

A year or so after I left that station (1992), King moved his radio show from late nights to afternoons. That is when I understand that my former station started really getting listener complaints. Some complainers asked them to put on Rush Limbaugh to counter King. They did, and to this day, Rush is now on that station.

There's a clip floating somewhere on the Internet of Larry getting very agitated at a caller, saying "I'm a professional..." Google it... ;D

Some people are classy, and retire when they are at the top of their game (Sir Terry Wogan as an example - when he left, he was hosting the #1 rated UK breakfast show). Then there's Larry King. To me, he's there for the paycheck in some respects... he may well love his work and is doing it because he still loves it - but he is to me less and less effective in his role these days.

I think Larry King should retire from weekday duties to a weekend show instead. He wouldn't be fired, his workload would be lessened, and King fans can still get to see him, just not in the week. He can then concentrate on interesting interviews and not have to worry too much about "breaking news".
