Is it time for the NFL's television rules to be overhauled?

In the past 2 seasons, WTIC in Hartford has been choosing to air the Patriots over the Giants, most likely due to their continued success. That said, why were BOTH NY teams scheduled for the same time AND the same network in the first place?

CBS used to have the AFC games and FOX had the NFC.(Out of Conference games went to the road team). If Giants played at New England, FOX would broadcast it.

That system is no longer in place. Games get flexed to different times and networks now. It's all about trying to maximize interest and ratings. Years ago, the Giants and Jets rarely played at the same time. Same thing with Raiders, 49ers. Los Angeles now has two winning teams in the #2 TV market. NFL is pleased with that...

WCCO has the game OTA. Is that because the Vikings are contracted to air MNF Vikings games on channel 4? Which leaves Mankato out in the cold even though you get some of the Minneapolis stations on cable/satellite. You're in a worse situation than we are!
Seattle is airing MNF on KIRO, which preempts 8-9PM CBS sitcoms to 1:37-2:37AM Tue morning (new episodes of The Neighborhood & Happy Together). I figured they would be on KCPQ...

Um, our days of airing CBS castoffs are long over.

I figured the GAME would be on KCPQ not the CBS sitcoms...after all Q13 Fox is the 'home of the 12th Man'...

KIRO outbid them. As mentioned earlier when a ESPN game or the NFL Network only games are up for bid in a market it goes as such....ABC O&O station or Hearst owned station gets first dibs and first refusal. If no O&O or Hearst in the market (or they refuse) then it goes to highest bidder.

Here in Minneapolis the CBS O&O outbid the FOX O&O ;)

i'm socked cowboys colts is the main game. bears packers should be the a game.
i'm not that shocked about it, as the stakes are higher for the Cowboys as if they win this game (as well as Philly and Washington loses at the same time), they will clinch the NFC East, but then again, the Redskins were meant to win the NFC East then they lost their QB to a career ending leg injury and the Philadelphia Eagles aren't doing so hot this year compare to this time last year. the Cowboys were having a bad season until the Amari Cooper trade, and since then, they finally found Dez Bryant's replacement in Amari.

Why is the decision "wise" in your 20/20 hindsight? Because seeing "America's Team" shut out by the Colts kept more viewers tuned in to the very end than watching the competitive Packers-Bears game?
Am I wrong I thought the topic was why wasn't the Cowboys game the A game. Isn't Pats/Steelers the a game. My argument was CBS was right not to make Cowboys the A game as the game sucked.

Now I'm all confused, The Giants were on CBS with Gumbell, who is horrible might I add. And as far as I can tell Buck wasn't doing the Cowboys on Fox so how could that be the A game.

Sorry, it was kind of unclear which game you were calling the wrong choice. Forgot that one was a Fox game and the other a CBS game,

If the Cowboys was the A game at 1pm it was the wrong choice.

Now I get you, but again you're basing your opinion on hindsight. Both games looked competitive going in, and I can see why a network would choose to feature a Dallas game to the greatest number of viewers. The Cowboys were hot going in and they still have a large national fan base. The Bears and Packers do, too, but I have a feeling the markets on the coasts -- the ones that matter to the nets and their advertisers -- have more out-of-market Cowboys fans in them.

I would also assume they are figuring in NFC east rival markets into placing the Cowboys into the a slot. I would think Packers Bears would be a better matchup.

But the other game that mattered to Bears and Packers fans -- Dolphins-Vikings -- was in the same early time slot, reducing its potential out-of-market viewership. The Cowboys game was of interest to Eagles and Redskins fans. It at least got Philadelphia (playing tonight) all to itself, although Washington's game was early.
