Is it time for the NFL's television rules to be overhauled?

That's not the reason. NBC will broadcast the Colts vs Chiefs game next Saturday. The day had nothing to do with it. FOX will always prefer getting a Dallas game.

All of the playoff scenarios are scrutinized by the Networks.
Nothing happens by accident in scheduling. Maximizing ratings and revenue is top priority...

I'm surprised NBC didn't instead carry Cowboys/Seahawks on Saturday night last night instead of running the risk of a reverse Heidi (and likely angry Golden Globes or red carpet show fans that are uptight and perturbed that their awards show was being delayed).

Although I don't like awards shows, I would have made the Saturday games ABC/NBC only, then CBS/Fox for Sundays for the wild card weekend.

A few years ago, CBS had the same issue with the Emmys and the Bills-Jets game. That game ended in regulation just before 8.
 
I've said this before in other threads but the networks should have enough sense to not schedule an awards show or any other live telecast after a live sporting event that may run into overtime, especially during playoffs. Surely they know far enough ahead of time (even possibly into next year already) when games will be that they can schedule other live shows where they don't conflict.

Not that it matters to me too much. I'm not too interested in this particular playoff game or the Golden Globes either one. I'll be watching Red Green on Twitch. :)
 
Good think The Eagles missed the 2 point conversion and Cody missed the 3 pointer or the NBC execs would be sweating.

It turrned out Red Green wasn't on tonight, but I didn't watch the Golden Globes either. :rolleyes:

they think they might get a large audience if the game goes into overtime
 
Did the Red Carpet Show air anywhere? I recorded it and all I got was football, although I don't usually care about what goes on before the show itself.
 
The red carpet show was broadcast only on Facebook.
I would have assumed NBCU would have aired it on E!, but they didn't ask my advice.

That doesn’t apply to the playoffs. There are usually no Sunday night wild card or divisional games...only one has been that Steelers/Chiefs game that got delayed because of weather. NBC usually has a Saturday night wild card or divisional game...however the league actually has been more flexible in recent years. NBC actually got the early Sunday wild card game 3 years ago. (Seahawks-Vikings). And I’m pretty sure the Packers-Cardinals divisional game that season was a Saturday night NBC game.

The prize is the Super Bowl. That's what everyone wants. NBC is guaranteed to be in the rotation for that.

The rotation is Fox, NBC, and CBS. ABC's last Super Bowl was 2006 when MNF moved to ESPN.

My question is on a given year how many post season games is NBC allocated. I assume they get one less the year they air the superbowl.

NBC is guaranteed two games, in the wildcard and divisional rounds. Or three if it is their year for the super bowl.

It was. I was in the hospital that week and the Saturday might game was on NBC as I watched it from my hospital room. And yes the Vikings/Seahawks game the previous Sunday was an early afternoon game(I got sick that day)

After "nipple-gate" the production of the halftime show was turned over to the NFL network. The Timberlake/Jackson performance, as I recall, was produced by MTV when they were part of CBS. After that, there was such an outcry that it became property of the NFL. Personally I thought it was fine. The real controversy was having any performers participate at all.
