Is it time for the NFL's television rules to be overhauled?

I think any idiot could simply look at the tv and see that the game is still going on, thus delaying 60 Minutes.

Delays on CBS Sunday prime time due to football have been going on for decades. Viewers are used to it. Anyone bothered by that needs to get a life.

exactly.

Fox switched many markets to the Redskins/Bucs game because the Saints were too good for the Bengals. Charlotte viewers got switched to what used to be the "home" team(before Panthers started in 1995)

no they got switched due to the blowout rule. Which there were a few like that but not all could be moved. Usually each timeslot has one or two games that can be switched if need be. The only early FOX game that could be switched was that game.

Also the late FOX game (SD err LA Chargers/Oakland err soon to be Las Vegas Raiders) got done before 6pm so no reruns on FOX will be JIPD

Last week, same thing all year-Asheville got a early game, but Charlotte got a late game. Charlotte had 60 Minutes delayed, but Asheville didn't.

so did Tampa and Dallas. It had to do with CBS having the singleheader game and those 3 road markets had a early FOX game so CBS didnt dare go against the home team. Very common (and has been noted a few times)

Just like this week. CBS has the DH and the following east coast markets have the FOX late game
Boston
Buffalo
Cleveland
Cincy
Columbus
Baltimore
Jacksonville

BOLD have to (home team on CBS)
Italic chose to due to local team being road game on CBS early
Columbus due to Cleveland and Cincy playing early game (against each other)

KC and Topeka are only Central time zone markets with the late game and its due to "local interest" (LA Chargers who are in 2nd place behind KC)

WFXT-TV (FOX) channel 25 of Boston could air a game a 1 PM ET, since the Patriots are on the road. They're just choosing not to commit ratings suicide.

exactly. And in a lot of cases in markets even when the local team is on the road.
This week all 3 road teams at 1pm are taking the late FOX game
Last week the 3 road teams that were on FOX early their markets took the late CBS game

In fact I went back a few weeks and that is what usually happens. When a team is on the road on the DH network the SH network takes the game in the opposite slot

edit: so this year there has not been one example of a road team having a SH game shown against them. There are 3 that it happened but they had to.
Week 3 San Fran on FOX in early slot. Oakland on CBS in early slot (dual team market)
Week 5 Giants on FOX in early slot. Jets on CBS in early slot (dual team market)
Week 8 Washington on FOX early. Baltimore on CBS in early slot (Washington is a Baltimore secondary market so they HAVE to show road games. Baltimore was on the road)

Meanwhile, WNAC FOX Providence has commited "ratings suicide" in 2 of the past 3 weeks (Nov. 10 and Nov. 24), airing a 1 PM game while WFXT aired a 4 PM game. In both cases FOX had the singleheader and the Patriots were on the road. Both cities are about equidistant from Gillette Stadium, and both stations can easily be picked up OTA in northern RI and southeastern MA.

Even stranger: Foxborough, MA is along I-95. Going south, the next municipality is Mansfield, Bristol County, MA. That begins the Providence/New Bedford DMA. There have been squabbles about cable coverage of WFXT-TV (FOX) channel 25 of Boston in that county, despite many being able to recieve it over-the-air. Foxborough is a wee bit closer to Providence than Boston.

I went to the old Foxborough Stadium one time. That was on Sunday, September 24, 1989. It was a week 3 game where Seattle won 24-3. (YAY!! :D ) Walking by one of the concession stands, I could swear their monitor was on WJAR-TV (NBC) channel 10 of Providence and not WBZ-TV (CBS) channel 4 of Boston. It was an NBC station at that time.

I used to live in Sharon, next town northeast of Foxborough (or Foxboro as we locals spelled it). WJAR and WPRI (12) Providence came in OTA snow-free in the analog days, no real difference in quality between them and the Boston VHFs.

Why am I getting screwed out of the Giants game right now? It's a home market and Fox is blacking it out?

That's strange. It was on here on the office TV in New Britain -- pretty sure it was the WTIC signal, not a satellite feed. Are you sure you don't mean the Jets game? The Giants had a 1 p.m. kickoff. The doubleheader game on Fox is Vikings-Patriots.

The Giants game went to overtime, Kurt came on and said due to league rule we have to take you to the start of the Vikings Patriots game.

Being a Giants home market we should have gotten the full game.

Maybe they requested to show the entire Vikings Patriots game. CT is half Giants, half Patriots area. plus, it's Fox's lone NE game this year.

In my area, they didn't join the Vikings-Patriots game, they stayed with Bears-Giants till the end.

Could be. Also, southwestern CT, which is nearly 100 percent Giants or Jets, would be getting the NYC Fox station, not WTIC -- and also, WTIC is the Fox signal for cable systems in Springfield, which is solidly Patriots territory. There would probably be many more complaints if the Giants' meaningless OT win (at least for them) had been allowed to air to its conclusion and the Pats fans had to miss their team's first TD.

WTIC requested the Pats game to be shown in its entirety. Same with WFFF Burlington, VT

you're not a "giants home market". Thats NYC only. Now you may mean regional market for NYG & NYJ but I think in that case the network still can request a pullout for the late game
Its weird because folks who got the game to begin with (ie: you) didnt see OT yet some people who had it for bonus coverage DID stay with the game.

I got the mandatory pullout at 3:19 CST because...well....I'm in Minnesota :)

most areas that got it as bonus coverage and didnt have a "interest" in the late game (ie: a mandatory pullout market) kept the game until the end which is the exact opposite of the crap FOX pulled earlier this year when they had to leave OT to show a Dall-ASS game in its entirity

bzzzz.
WGGB-DT2 (40-2) is the FOX station for Springfield, MA and the only affiliate on Spectrum in Springfield

Didn't realize that, but then my last OTA memory of WGGB is as a snowy ABC affiliate, which also was carried on local cable before Syndex forced it off. Should have looked it up instead of assuming, as I haven't seen a single Springfield signal in many years. I miss "As Schools Match Wits."
