Is It Time To Cancel The CW?

Found the answer. They were 10-year agreements, signed in 2006. So, the soonest the network could end operations without breach would be the summer of 2016. Coincidentally, that's when the Netflix and Hulu agreements run out too, so perhaps that's the plan?

The biggest thing killing The CW is it's ownership (same reason MyNet will never go anywhere). It's owned by CBS, so it will always be crippled by the fact that CBS wouldn't want to cannibalize itself.

It's 50/50: CBS having 50% and Time Warner having 50%. However, programming wise, it seems more like more like The WB, than it does like anything from CBS, or like how UPN was programmed.

Boy, that list makes NBC look GOOD. :D

Should the CW be ended, I think Warner Brothers would be smart to bring the WB back.... as a cable channel.

I could see that possible. It'd be like the female oriented TNT, and Time Warner would package it with TBS and TNT channels, in regards to channel placement.

It makes it lot simpler than the current arrangement, and Time Warner would own and operate it, manage its distribution and collect all fees. Also, the horrible CW branding would go.

With CBS buying out WLNY, I think CBS just likes the duopoly aspect and can find programming for it's duopoly stations and just run it like how Fox runs the MyNetwork. Tribune would be out, but they could program WPIX and WGN like indys again, and affiliate with MyNetwork in markets where Fox doesn't have a duopoly.

Yes it is why there is a need for CW? for what to get barely 1 million viewers at best a 0.85. Should've never cancelled UPN and WB.

There was no room for 2 netlets, there's barely enough room for one

Who wants to bet that the CW's ratings breaks a ratings record before 2016(0.0 - 0.10)? And some CW Affiates start dropping the CW like a bad habit.

Looks like the CW is running reruns again until mid-march.

Pretty typical, some or all of the big networks are doing the very same thing. The only difference is, some of the bigger networks have specials to air during this time too, making it seem like they aren't in reruns.

Correction. "90210" comes back with new episodes tomorrow night. I'm looking forward to it. "Ringer" is still airing new episodes.

Out of the AP's weekly Nielsen release comes the most mortifying news for the CW; last week it was the nation's #8 network, with Univision, Telemundo, and ION Television outrating it for the week.

When you get to competing with ION, which airs one hour of original programming a week, it's a good sign your programming plans aren't doing too well in the marketplace.

some CW stations are owned by Sinclair and i bet Ring of Honor (ROH) Wrestling gets higher ratings than most CW programs.
