Is it weird that 60 Minutes is not airing tonight?

Sure. I was just 10 years old but I remember my Dad was crazy mad about this. A close NFL game was pre-empted to show the movie "Heidi". Simple as that.

An AFL game, actually. The leagues hadn't merged yet. Not doubting you, but it seems like more people remember watching that game than could logically have been expected in its actual TV audience. The AFL was still considered the inferior league in 1968, having lost the first two "world championship games" (Super Bowls) in lopsided fashion.

Yes, of course. 50 years of the NFL does tend to make one forget. I will slightly disagree that the AFL was "considered the inferior league in 1968". Some of the most exciting football was coming out of the AFL, (NY Jets, Oakland Raiders, KC Chiefs), which is perhaps why the leagues merged at the end of the day.
