Is Lite 102.9 really Lite?

Lite102.9 plays approx. 2-3 70s/hour and 3-4 80s.

Sounds like WOBM 92.7 Toms River, NJ. You had "Disco Inferno" by The Trammps, some 70s Elton John, "Take On Me" by A-ha and Katy Perry in the same day. I don't normally listen to WOBM, but it's on at the office all day. :)

I remember when I lived in Toms River NJ before 2005, I would hardly listen to WOBM,
and they almost never played any current hits. Their format was your average "Soft Rock" station
and played lots of love songs, some of it similar to the music Delilah plays on her show.
I've visited the Jersey Shore earlier this year, and clearly "Soft Rock 92.7 WOBM" isn't mostly Soft Rock anymore.
The WOBM I remember was almost nothing like WLYT is today, I know they've come a long way.
I guess lots of stations are cutting back on Soft Rock and love songs, like WOBM was as a majority.

Delilah is no longer soft rock in that sense. her music is like that of the stations that play her.

So I was having to go back and forth between stations on the way home yesterday. No one station was making me happy. One good station was too far away due to air condtioning causing interference, and the other had NASCAR.

I tried Lite and they were playing "Sometimes When We Touch", which was a relatively good song. Then "Sunglasses at Night"--definitely not!

"She's Gone" by Hall and Oates--that one's okay.

I just remembered. They had a really annoying DJ. He's a Charlotte veteran. Collins is his last name. Surely not voice-tracked if he's from Charlotte, but on a weekend?

Now the bank has gone and changed again. I think I heard someone say "K-104.7". And yet there was still "Love Shack" by the B-52's. That's in a BANK. ::)

You guys would keel over if you heard our AC station B98.5 lately - they love playing Semi-Charmed Life by Third Eye Blind!!

They did drop the "soft rock" tagline though, and replaced it with "80s, 90s, and now"

Forgot to mention the teller had Bart Simpson's hair.

Another song I heard on K-104.7, with a dance beat, ... it's not "ring my bell" but another pattern of verb starting with R, pause, possessive pronoun, pause and noun.

Those darn kids have taken over our radio stations! :'(

I was in Miami a couple of months ago and there is a Lite 101.5 FM, an Easy 93.1 FM and an oldies station Majic 102.7 to listen to. Even the Hot A/C was tolerable (Coast 97.3) but every once in awhile they'd play something awful that sent my hand flying to the buttons.

I remember hearing a few days ago, on the 80s lunch, that the DJ mentioned he doesn't play 60s because he felt his audience doesn't know 60s music.. We'll.. I'm in my 40s and I know alot of 60s..

Like you said, this town has changed for the younger audiences only. If you live east of mint hill you'll need to spend lots of money on gas just to hear good oldies music..

Sorry for sounding like a broken record..

We hear ya, even my local Bojangles stopped playing the excellent oldies mix they had been playing there. My 22 year old daughter loved it. What replaced it, not so much!

Let's face it the '60's had a good run. That music couldn't stay around forever. BUT there are a lot of really good songs from the '70's, '80's and '90's that don't get played. Maybe because the music directors and maybe even the general public has a different idea of what is good music. At this point I'd listen to a 1,000 watt daytimer if it had a good format.

Could Lite102.9 be in danger of a flip? Look at WMYI in Greenville/Spartanburg! Ditched AC for Hot AC and they just had a good book. They were very similar to Lite. Now promoting the "Fresh New Sound of My 102.5"

Seems like it would be a good and yet viable format here in the QC. "My 102.9" Sounds good and looks like it would be a smart fit.
Clear Channel, are you with me?! Ha

I take that back....they may worry about overlap between a "fresh new" Lite 102.9 (if done like WMYI) and Channel 96.1. The Hot AC format has overlap with CHR (Cee Lo Green, Bruno Mars, Kesha, Katy Perry, Gaga, etc).

1580 AM has oldies. I don't know how far west the signal reaches.

Did they really? I haven't heard any such thing. And if they did they didn't have time for a good book yet.

Yes, they did. And the good book he's talking about is the Winter ARB in the old format. It was their first solid book in quite some time.

Okay, thanks. I see what he means now. And since I posted here I have read three whole pages about the change.

That's what was surprising....why did they flip after their best book in ages?

WMYI/Greenville definitely isn't Hot AC - they spin their #1 song 19 times per week

Maybe you mean "Fresh AC"? Not sure...
