As for spins, WMYI just flipped Friday, so they haven't had a full week to collect play numbers.

It's pretty similar to most major-market AC playlists - I think they were probably outdated before now, and they're just catching up to 2011 mainstream AC
Our AC station just "updated" their sound last month to "80s/90s/today", but they're still definitely AC (not HAC), cause the spin numbers are low and they only play very few select currents
Yeah, you may be right - it's just that the gold material is Hot AC'ish - Justin Timberlake, Kings of Leon, Vertical Horizon, R.E.M., Lisa Loeb, Dave Matthews Band, Killers, Finger Eleven, Florence & The Machine, All American Rejects, and lots of Alanis Morissette, P!nk, Nickelback, Green Day, U2, etc. songs that most AC's don't play. It's kinda like they are programming off of the AC current chart, but the rest of the stuff is pretty Hot AC'ish. Not much 80s (if considered AC). Since the station's new, I'd wait until Friday or Saturday to decide on the average spins for the heavily rotated songs - I suspect that number will be around 30-40 for their most heavily rotated songs. They have around 10 or 11 songs in the heaviest rotation.atlantaboy said:

Yeah, I'm thinking CC might not have wanted to due a full-fledged Hot AC, given the format's track record in the southeast outside of some larger cities, so they came up with this. It looks a lot like the Fresh stations (not the one in St. Louis, really). I can't believe a market like Charlotte can't even support the Hot AC format.atlantaboy said:

Radio listeners in very conservative areas are usually pretty resistent to new music (which is why I think The Link decided to flip, and why similar flips have occurred in Richmond [Hot AC to recurrent based HAC], Raleigh [HAC to AC], and Greensboro [Hot AC to Adult Hits]) - so I think what WMYI has done is given its listeners a more exciting, updated sound, while not leaving them listening to brand new music and going "WTF is this?"
Exactly...very good view. I've noticed 2 or 3 currents and a couple of recurrents an hour from the AC chart on WMYI. Only about 1 or 2 from the 80s. It looks pretty similar to WWFS in NYC. Will be interesting to see how they do adds, and how liberal/conservative they are. If I'm doing "fresh" AC in this market, Keep Your Head Up, Edge Of Glory, and Good Life would be some pretty good tracks on the AC chart to consider, as they aren't really shocking and fit the sound.atlantaboy said:
This is a pretty good station - very upbeat and I like probably 80% of what they're playing. Since true Hot AC wouldn't work well here, this is a pretty good compromise.

I can't believe Clear Channel would be worrying about an AC overlapping with a Rhythmic-leaning CHR - Katy Perry into Nicki Minaj is gonna solicit a completely different demographic than Katy Perry into Chicago, and I really don't think there's much overlap in those demos
Yeah, I guess you're right - CC has Hot AC's and CHR's in the same market - LA, Philadelphia, Detroit, Dayton immediately come to mind, heck, even Chattanooga, so I guess that isn't really a problem....atlantaboy said:

....around the time they switched to their current format, they cut back on the talking. Maybe just coincidental, who knows. BTW, I do like WMYI in Greenville more - they are slightly more modern, actually...WLNK, by whatever call letters it was known, has played hot AC when they played music since the early 90s. I do know they were more mainstream and maybe even soft AC when they first returned to the old WBT-FM letters, but at some point they started calling themselves "Sunny" and the volume went up again.
