Is my "Froggyland" math correct?

MsMusicRadio said:
Daisy and the General Lee should pull way ahead

This from the radio board that way back when, said the Froggy concept here...multiple sticks and all....wouldn't work. Well, here we go again .... the Froggy concept has been laughed at, the fact that there are multiple signals ridiculed, etc etc, since they went on - almost 10 years ago. Interestingly, the talk on the Frogs on this board has shifted over the years from "it won't work" (which was incorrect)..... to now, where they are part of the radio world here, just not close to DSY (although that's not correct)

Since they first went on, DSY's numbers have dropped in half. Yes, DSY used to have 12 shares in that era, check your facts. They've gone down consistantly since then. Now I'm sure you'll say the Frogs had nothing to do with that...... really? Don't think Froggy has had any effect? You need to talk to Keith Clark or Stoney Richards. Then again, they wouldn't admit it. But they HAVE, and it's to people I know.

If the Frogs aren't doing anything, why is it their cume is virtually the same as DSY's? Somebody must like them. Oh, that's right, it's the LISTENERS, the ones who matter..not the radio boards. Why do the Steelers use Froggy for all their events, like this year's Ribfest (again). Surely if Froggy was a joke your beloved Steelers would go with the "Pittsburgh station" DSY, right? How has the Pepsi Roadhouse had great success using only the Frogs for the past 7 years? NO ads on DSY in that entire time.

This is just more Frog-bashing from you folks who for some reason have something against Keymarket, Froggy concept, whatever. If you don't like someone for some reason (ie: you were fired, friends were fired, whatever) that's fine, but don't deny reality. The numbers are there and speak for themselves. However, this latest change (ie with 98.3) is just the latest opportunity for the Frog-haters to come out of the woodwork again. If it's not KDKA being slammed, it's Froggy I guess.

That means their TSL is maybe 25% of DSY's if my math is correct. Maybe the stupid Frog stuff is a tune out?

Nope. CBS owns DSY, the Steelers are primarily affiliated with Clear Channel, and Keymarket is almost a stepchild of CC in some respects. Same with the Pepsi Roadhouse.. isn't it owned by Live Nation/ Clear Channel? No money going to CBS on that one either.

No axe to grind here.... I actually think they've done a really credible job pasting together a bunch of rimshots, but in this economy, and giving up their better Allegheny county signal, I think they're going to be swimming upstream.

Yes, I don't know the numbers though. 94.9 does well down in the Uniontown area and 103.5 was pulling some numbers... those went away after 98.3 was added and 104.3 was moved in.

In the days of DSY, K-Bear and the Rebel, 3 country stations were too many, but when there was only one there was a hole big enough to drive a ford F-250 pickup truck through, so they picked off some that audience.

On saturday night 9/5/9 In the parking garage on 6th and penn 105.5 was loud and clear through out the Building. we listened all the way up 279 to rotchester road up through north park before we lost the signal. On a transistor radio at the intersection of rt 19 and cumberland road the signal was strong. I thought 105.9 would kill it in north hills.

No, second-channel adjacent should be OK in the immediate area like that. Before they put that translator on I used to modulate my Sirius radio on 105.5 a lot (actually Punxsutawney starts to come in up towards Cranberry).

I understand it isn't part of the simulcast (at least not that I'm aware of) - but might WFGI 95.5 also help with some coverage in the eastern part of the 'burgh? It has a monster signal that I actually copied not too long ago almost at the NY/PA border, and would regularly stop car radios up north in Grove City (where they have a Froggy of their own on 95.1).

They simulcast that with Altoona, even though it comes in pretty well in Westmoreland County... the morning guy is Steve Kelsey, who was at WFBG in Altoona for many years.

Personally I'd make it all one big Frog with Jimmy Roach mornings everywhere and Kelsey afternoons.

Did y'all see the item earlier this week announcing that Keymarket/Forever had reworked $30 million in loans with Wells Fargo & the Bank of Montreal through December 2013? The announcement was made last Friday.

Can't help but wonder whether the deal with EMF to sell 98.3--announced just a couple weeks ago--was a requirement of the bankers in consideration for not pulling the plug on the Froggyland Empire?

Why 98.3? Maybe because it was the only stick worth enough cash to satisfy the bankers?

Now, on the other hand (and there's always "another hand" with Donald & Kerby), with the 30 Large in hand, do they go back to EMF--an outfit they've been trading with for years--and say "Let's call the whole thing off." Or substitute one of the rimshots, instead?

Are they still playing Taylor Swift on 98.3?

My guess would be that the banks would only go so far, so Kerby & Co. had to come with some money on their own. The 98.3 stick is the most valuable since it covers the most people, so it was put up for sale. The EMF folks are the only ones doing any buying right now, so it was a good fit.

Heres a link to the news story mentioned;
http://www.rbr.com/radio/16871.html

also, to my knowledge, Kelsey (Rob Terdiman) is still at Froggy in Altoona doing mornings. He will probably be there til he takes his last "ribbett".

"FROGGY 104" comes in good inside the Maxon garage and fairly good in Monroeville, but is fuzzy at Beechwood and Wilkins. CBS should put up a huge billboard at that corner.

The billboard should feature a frog in dorky spectacles, walking around with a cell phone and a radio.

"Can you hear me now? No??"

If it is broadcasting from Moon Township, 104.3 comes in very strong at Monroeville Mall. How does that work?

13,000 watts on a fairly high stick, that's why they figured they could sell off 98.3.... the bigger hole is in the city, but that's due more to terrain than distance. 98.3 is on a stick on the north side, but this does a decent job with the 'burbs.

Is it just me or is their audio way too hot and compressed?

I can get 104.3 pretty decent from Greenville. so raise your signal lol i like my big city country station. But we are in kind of an overfrogged area with 95.1 from Grove City and 100.3 from Meadville. lol But glad to hear ya.

Aren't 104.3 and 104.7 too close?

They are probably at the absolute minimum distance for a second-channel adjacent, and it's likely another reason the they are 13,000 watts and not more.
