Is NBC dead?

I told you so.
Now, as I was saying, MORE GAME SHOWS PLEASE!
(That's game shows, not reality tv shows.)

At the very least, bringing back a night time deal might not hurt any...

NBC is not yet dead. I will consider NBC to be dead when its gets beating by a spanish network like Univision. Right now in the 18 to 49 group The Office is beating Survivor. Please no game shows. With the exception of Alex Trebek. If you want to watch game shows in primetime tune to MYTV on tuesdays at 8pm EST.

NBC is far from dead.

I remember people saying the same thing about CBS just a few years ago when that network was in the basement (ratings-wise).

The problem with TV today in general is that reality programming has taken over because it's cheaper to produce than other programs and does (I don't know why) generate ratings.

This viewer is one example of some one sick of seeing similar shows with different participants.

They also said NBC was dead during the Fred Silverman era (1978-81); there was a joke at the time that Silverman was the only network exec who knew what it was like to rearrange the deck chairs on the Titanic. But we all know what happened to NBC in the Tinker-Tartikoff era.

Never, ever say anything is dead (even the variety show exists in different forms, such as American Idol and Dancing With The Stars) in this business.

If Comcast were to somehow acquire NBC, then warm up the Fat Lady! But until then, NBC is in the ICU, and expected to make an eventual recovery.

Um no. I want more actual prime time game shows. Not a rebroadcast of something from earlier in the day. Deal or no deal daytime is total crap...somehow it gets ratings, but the evening edition was a lot better, and it was a full hour.

Personally, "Deal or No Deal" would be much better if they didn't feature charity cases all the time, and if they haven't given away any details (the fact that they spoiled the last million dollar win in promos and during the show did it in for me).

Daytime Deal succeeds with numbers that would be a failure in primetime, so it's a bit of apples to oranges. Whatever the reason, the original flamed out (too drawn out, too repetitive, people finding competing shows they liked better that weren't available in that slot in the earlier years, part of NBC's overall troubles right now? Who knows...), so it's understandable we're not seeing games on the schedule now. They bought rights to one (something about doing household chores...seriously), but who knows if it will make it to air or not.

NBC is far from dead as a company in a whole.

Let's not forget it's cable networks USA, Syfy, Bravo, and MSNBC as of late has been among the tops in cable.

And not to mention the revenue it gets from Universal Pictures.

So while the traditional TV network is struggling to find an audience, it's other divisions is keeping it alive from the NBC-Universal point of view.

And plus I read on Wikipedia on NBC Universal that Comcast would've actually own 51% while GE would maintain minority ownership of 49%; so it really isn't a big deal in my opinion.

That would fit...but it's "Perfect 10." Apparently they did order 8 episodes (but, hey, that's never stopped the axe from swinging when something is a disaster). It sounds a bit like a Beat the Clock concept, but using tasks that could be, in theory, replicated easily at home. Why someone would want to, I don't know, but that's the premise.

NBC needs to emphasize that they are the "Widescreen HD Network" just like they did during the infancy of color TV.

I'd like to see remakes of the Newlywed Game (just for the edginess), Supermarket Sweep, and Match Game (the buzzums show is funny!).

Programming style has got to change. Blood and cadavers on everystation. IN this economy, bring back King for a day or something like big bucks Jeopardy! A good Colombo/murder she wrote/Monk typer who dunnit would be cool too.... Maybe a family series like eight is enough....instead of the non reality reality stuff that ends up in the dumper...

The fans of The Biggest Loser and 80% of NBC's reality output (along with Scrubs until it bumped over to ABC) would beg to differ with that opinion. Why NBC and ABC are still even doing SD reality and games programming (giving CBS a pass regarding Big Brother and Amazing Race due to count of cameras/durability of equipment concerns) is one of the most irking issues currently. If Fox can at the very least do 16:9 widescreen on all of their productions outside of the early Seth McFarlane shows for legacy purposes, surely NBC can just 16:9 everything.

And don't get me started on the inaity that is Carson Daly's show being shot in 16:9 but not aired in HD due to the budget.

To me reality shows, game shows, majority of the daytime talkshows and court shows are the worst in TV. Inane chatter about nothing. There is only one game show I watch that is Jeoprady. When I get home I tune into Newshour then Jeoprady then a half hour of Are You Being Served? I only DVR one daytime show that is Bonnie Hunt. Gameshows are the worst thing to air in primetime.

Back to the thread topic: Is NBC dead?

In my opinion, the whole network business model is in jeopardy and is being rewritten. The Big 4 are having troubles, obviously. It's just that NBC happens to be the most vulnerable right now.
