If Stern couldn't bring enough subscribers to help save Sirius, how does anyone expect Russ to? No one outside this market knows him. Stern is more versatile, he actually has content and does interviews with interesting people. All Russ can do is play fart noises and blow things up. Maybe okay for free radio, but when you have to pay a fee to listen, not so much.
not for nothing, but that exact same argument could be made for ANY format/personality/station for satellite radio.
If stern, the music, the "variety", the sports, the talk, the lack of commercials and all the other things satellite touts as an advantage over terrestrial radio what made them every think anyone would pay for what they can essentially get for free?
I doubt anyone is sitting in an office somewhere saying "this is the GUY who will save satellite radio", or this is the MUSIC, SPORT, STATION or FORMAT that will "save" satellite radio.
Each personality appeals to different people. Person A may not like what person B likes. (so person A calls person B names lol), more or less the definition of variety.
As for the argument that he is no different or the same or a copy or whatever else people like to trot out, to you.. sure. But not to everyone.
I would be willing to wager to a lot of people, all reggae sounds the same, all rap sounds the same, all classical sounds the same, all country sounds the same or all rock sounds the same. All political talk sounds the same, you get the point.
It's ironic that people complain and complain about the death or either forms of radio and how it's dying but the idea of variety (mind you, just because YOU don't like it doesn't mean you speak for all) seems to be universally hated. It's never as good as the good old days and all that jazz. I dunno about you, but 10-15-20 years ago, was there as much variety on the radio the b!tch about? (not complaining about the complaining, but illustrating a point)
"like we need another rap/r&b/tejano/country/talk station!!"... sound familiar??
yes.... yes we do.
