Is there something going on at CC Tucson?

I have to seriously disagree with you 99ktkt. I do regular performances for all age groups and the 50's & early 60's are still alive. This is especially true in Mexican Hispanic markets. Almost any perfoming group has 'In The Still Of The Night, Angel Baby, I Only Have Eyes For You, Sleepwalk, I'm Sorry, and many, many, more 50's & early 60's songs in their line-up. Not to mention Elvis tunes. You are really out of touch on this one.

Unfortunately, this is the kind of thinking that prevails in the Tucson market. That's what makes Tucson radio PATHETIC.

By the way, I'm an alumni of 70's and 80's Tucson radio.

You misunderstood me. I was merely pointing out that Alan Michaels was incorrect in describing 94.5 KOOL's format. He was stating that they still regularily play songs from the 50s and pre-Beatles 60s, which is simply not true, with very few exceptions. Their core music range is from 1965-85. Ditto for KRDX-Vail. This is pretty much standard at FM oldies stations anymore. Pre-1964 music has been shunted to AM, as on KCEE or KTUC locally, or simply abandoned in many markets. Not making any value judgement, just telling it like it is.
Someone who was, say, 17 in 1960 is pushing 70 today. While that demo has lots of $$, for whatever reason it is not considered a desirable target demo by most stations, especially on FM.

Thanks for the clarification. I still think that Tucson should have a 'Greatest Hits' or 'Oldies' station. The format is very healthy in most major markets and is PPM friendly. The EMPTY 92.9 would be a great candidate for such a change, (almost like going full cycle on that frequency). But CC would never do it.

I would love to see an Oldies format that skews even newer, say 1975-1995, although it's probably a few years premature. By 2015 I'm sure we'll see it, since '95 will then be 20 years back. Then some lucky late '80s/early '90s tunes can become as tiredly overplayed as "Margaritaville" or "Low Rider"! ;D
Nostalgia never stands still. As Lois Griffin so memorably put it, "Kids, these '50s diners were all the rage back in the '80s!"
