Is TPIR over with Rosie?

Rosie would be to The Price Is Right what Katie is to the CBS Evening News. 'Nuff said.

"It could be worse, Paris Hilton could be the host and they replace the models with chippendale dancers. At the end of the show, they can neuter Tinkerbell."

Oh God.......

:D Please don't give CBS any ideas....................................!! :D

It's the end of TPIR regardless of who the new host is. Rosie is merely the worst of a bad list of candidates. Let the affiliates have the hour.
Yep, I think so too. Look for TPIR to end up here: http://www.tvhell.net/ (a site that lists canceled TV shows).

That site is worthless.
The entries are not updated, and the webmaster inserts his (or her?) opinion of the shows. For example, he refers to the "West Wing" as "this very unrealistic show." Really? And he knows this becuase.....?

Really, Who ask him?

Off topic rant over.

Just heard that Drew Carey's name has been thrown into the mix. CBS must have really been impressed with his game show (Power of 10, I think) that is slated to air on CBS later this summer.

I had been for Todd Newton out of the proposed finalists, but if Drew Carey is given a chance and does well on Power of 10 I'd be for him. He's definitely a better choice than Rosie.

I had a weird thought. Suppose someone from the 50's were put in a time machine and brought to 2008, and Drew Carey is the new host of TPIR. Their first thought might be "WOW Bill Cullen's put on weight!!!" ;D

I'm pulling for the local boy, Todd Newton - I used to listen to him when he was Rikk Idol on the old Q104 in St. Louis back in the early 90s.

Rosie would be a nightmare, and would probably drive off half of the current viewership, at least, if not get TPIR cancelled entirely. I think Dave Price would be just about as bad of a disaster.

Maybe CBS oughta make it into some sort of on-air competition, where people vote "American Idol" style for their favorite host? I think Endemol and CBS still have no real idea who they want. Filling Bob Barker's shoes is a big task.

Personally, I'd like to see them give the job to John O’Hurley from Family Feud. I think he's got just the right disposition for the job.

I have to agree! "J. Peterman" would be a great host for TPIR. He's my pick too....

Is this the end of our beloved TPIR......

I don't hold a lot of hope for its future, I'm afraid. A new host deserves an honest chance, but I doubt many will give him/her much of a honeymoon.

....and is Bob endorsing her on purpose to kill off the show?

Absolutely.

Seriously, can you point out one example of Bob having tried to sink the show? Name one quote--one--that indicates he doesn't hope the folks continuing the show do well.

Didn't think so.

Just because he's retiring, doesn't mean he's out to ruin the show.

I don't understand why Bob Barker would suggest Rosie O'Donnell to take over a
show that has been good for CBS during it's 35-year run, since it's the only game
show left in the network daytime television lineup.
As i said in a previous post, Todd Newton would be the ideal choice for "The
Price Is Right", he has game show experience on programs like "Hollywood
Showdown", which ran on the "PAX Network" back in the late 1990's and 2000,
and is currently rerunning on the "TV Guide Network", and "Whammy!" which
had a brief run on Game Show Network a few years back.
The energy between him and announcer Rich Fields would be terrific and will
keep this show on for many years to come, and daytime television needs it!

While I wish nothing but the best for whoever gets the job of replacing Barker on TPIR, and like many others I hope the show will last well into the next generation, I myself don't see it happening. I see TPIR going down the same path more/less as American Bandstand did when Dick Clark decide to step down.

Yes true there are differences such as by the time Clark left Bandstand the show was already off ABC and getting ready to debut to USA Network while TPIR is staying on CBS. When Clark stepped down as host, I don't think much was made as who would be getting Dick's job. Almost like people didn't really care. OTOH it seems everyone has an opinion on who will get Bob's job. However both shows are icons. People to this day of course when they think of American Bandstand they still think of Dick Clark and not David Hirsch ( the guy who replaced Dick Clark ) much the same way when they of TPIR they think of Bob Barker. I know its been said before, whoever gets Bob's job, they got some pretty big shoes to fill.

Rosie & TPIR: I would be very surprised if she would get the job. Well for one thing its the lesbian factor.
No it really shouldn't matter but lets face it, a LOT of people will make it an issue. I can see the tabolids right now running such wild stories ( regardless if its true or not ) such as..... "Female contestant on TPIR claims Rosie made a pass at her !!", "Male contestant on TPIR slams Rosie & CBS...he didn't win because he wasn't gay" or "CBS/Rosie will do a special gay only version of TPIR where all the members of the studio audience are gay". Since the taboilds like the National Enquier, Star, Globe and so forth it seems every week most ( if not all ) do a "gay" story on a celebrity they are going to have a field day if Rosie gets Bob Barker's job.

And it would not surprise me at all that some advertisers would pull their ads from the TPIR if Rosie gets the job as was the case with Wendy's Hamburgers when they pulled their ads from Ellen's coming out episode years ago. I also can see a station or two in one of the more conservative markets not running TPIR because of Rosie being a lesbian.

Of course you do have Rosie's politics as well.

Rosie & TPIR...picking her as host would be a major headache.

It's possible, considering most of their advertisers target older, more conservative audiences.

Bob Barker is a lot of things ... but stupid is not one of them. Of course he'd never come out and say, "THE PRICE IS RIGHT should be retired with me. I AM the show."

I revere TPIR for the institution it is. The PROGRAM. I just don't share the reverence that many have for the host. I used to like him once upon a time, but when he began his radical PETA tactics (does anyone remember his temper tantrum on Nightline back in '86-'87 or so?) and acting all condescending toward contestants. The last straw came when Holly Hallstrom was fired. The original models were as much a part of the show as Bob or Rod (and Johnny before him). Could you have imagined Monty Hall treating Carol Merrill that way .... "you gained 10 pounds, doesn't matter if it's because of an Rx -- you're fired, you fat cow!" As for Dian, nobody but they know the real story, but IMHO it doesn't pass the smell test.

Bob Barker was executive producer ... when Fremantle made all the cuts to the program, he claimed he had no say in the matter. I doubt that's true; if he had enough clout to stipulate that no TPIR repeats air which contain fur coats (and this without actually OWNING the programs!) ..... then I'm sure he could've threatened to walk if the producers were ready to dice 'n' slice. Fremantle would've turned to jelly - how could they have not? TPIR had the sense of a tight family - Bob, the announcer, the models ..... if I were financially secure like he is, I'd have gone to bat for my "family."

No, Bob didn't have to come out and say he wants the show to end. He doesn't have to. It's all in the way he's carried the show, as if it's his own. Hosting his own "tribute." Allowing all the praise to be showered upon him, and then after his last taping implying he'd return if asked. The program is the institution, more so than Bob.

And recommending Rosie O'Donnell .... I don't think Bob is totally out of the loop on his successor. Carson wasn't, and made his preference known; that was NBC's fault. Bob is pushing for the most polarizing figure, hmmmmm. Personally, I'm no fan of Rosie for reasons totally unrelated to politics or lifestyle -- I just plain can't stand her.

As for the new host, I'd love for Todd Newton to have it ... and agree with those who say he and Rich Fields together would be lightning in a bottle.

Just because he's retiring, doesn't mean he's out to ruin the show.

True (i.e. Carson didn't try and sabotage Leno's career ... although I'll bet he might've been tempted a time or two). :D

There's a world of difference between saying someone could do the job and that they should be picked above all others. By all accounts, he happens to like Rosie. I don't--but I don't know her; he does. He expressed confidence in a friend--hardly a terrible characteristic.

I've been on record here saying that I think the show can go on without him, if the viewers let it. Whether past attempts at the syndicated versions were indications people won't accept anyone but him or that Price simply isn't a late fringe/access show, I don't know. We'll see when the new host steps through the doors. To some extent, with the length of time he's been on the show, not unlike Carson, he and the program became hard to separate in many people's minds (not mine--I liked the '94 version better than the daytime version), and the new host will need time to make it their own. Radical as it may be, they need to tweak the set and perhaps do some updating of the music and presentation. No matter what, the new person will be compared by many people to Bob--whether he/she carries the wrong mic, or doesn't explain the games the right way, etc. Those comparisons will only be worse if it's the identical show.

Finally, as for Rosie, it's now reported there will be no deal--and all of the idle speculation that he was trying to destroy the show can thankfully go away. CBS/Freemantle simply talked to her--and it was a smart business decision to cast a wide net, even bringing in long shots just to see what's there. Like her or not--and I don't--the View's ratings went up the whole time she was there, and she does have fans. How on Earth people made the leap that a conversation meant she was taking over is beyond me--perhaps a sad commentary on the ability of the Internet to make up a story where none exists.

I thought Richard Karn would be good. And when they took him off Family Feud, I thought perhaps they had him in mind for TPIR. Ricki Lake did a decent job on the retro game shows last summer. Didn't she do one of TPIR? Clips of her on the other shows are widely available on YouTube and her own website, but TPIR is not mentioned.

He said on his show he's not auditioning for the gig. No story there.
