Is WFNY Flipping?

Yup, I've heard that in the stunting. NEW YORK CITY, your rock is returning to NYC @ 5PM EDT on 92.3 FM.

Don't count on what is heard in the stunting.....usually they try to throw you off with those liners. The actual format is usually not revealed in stunting.

ALLACCESS.COM reports that CBS will return the frequency to the K-ROCK moniker it had prior to the format flip in January 2006. PD Kevin Weatherly is consulting the return to rock, and there will be no on-air talent until at least next Tuesday (except for O&A).

You've also got some country clips sneaking their way in there.

And urban. And Spanish. And nostalgia. And classic rock. And polka. And disco. And news.

Announcing the all new K-ROCK Network......coming to you live from Cleveland :p

With Rover's Morning Glory in the morning, and O&A afternoons! ;D

According to All Access, the station will lean heavily on 90s Rock, but will also play some Currents and some 80s. It probably won't sound very different from the new Radio 104.5 Philadelphia, or 94.9 The Sound Cincinnati

If that is in fact the sound they're going for, perhaps they should try a different branding other than K-Rock in NYC. While L.A. residents associate it with their flagship Alternative station, NYC residents remember it as an unfocused mess that couldn't decide whether it was Alternative or a station for frat boys or forklift drivers.

They would be smart to incorporate a bit more harder rock than what you can hear on 104.5 or The Sound, given the absence of it on the NYC FM dial. I just hope they will leave out the Def Leppard, Guns N' Roses and the like - that can already be heard so many places.

I wouldn't expect them to sound quite like Radio 104.5. That station is very AC in presentation, and its playlist also leans very AC...NYC has no shortage of AC radio already.

Not a bad idea. Perhaps just be a straight up active rock station, leaving the alternative to K-Rock 2? Though I enjoyed what K-Rock was turning into towards the end of the alternative run, I realize it wasn't working and probably still won't work.

Would this be wise for them with Jack playing alot of the same stuff? (of course we're talking about CBS) I'm not so sure that "rock" in this form will be the case, but I may be wrong. They've set themselves up for failure before, so we shall wait and see! ::)

Sorry guys it definitely won't be Active Rock. It will be a little less Adult sounding then Radio 104.5 Philadelphia, but will still be a very mass appeal sounding Rock station.

the post on the last page classic 80's rock claiming that you can hear it anywhere, i think your a little wrong the only station that i can think of, off the top of m head would be MAX FM In Hampton Roads VA
