It looks like 106.7 has changed formats (slightly)

I think the main reason Radio 1067 became genx was because under the previous format they aired Rover's Morning Glory which I think turned a majority of the listeners off. If they do fully revert back to modern maybe they won't bring Rover back. They were doing better in ratings than WWCD till they put Rover on.

When they put rover on, it was in late 2009 when they had gone more active rock during 99.7's "The Rock" phase. I know I tuned out when Rover started. They were one of the last stations playing music in the morning.

I believe this was their time line:
Dec 2007, sign-on as Radio 106.7 - Mainstream Alt Rock
April 2009, Went more active with artists like Tool.
July 2010, Gen-X starts
Oct 2011, Playlist resembles original 106.7, mostly pop-rock and alt hits

106.7 airs Columbus Crew MLS games when WTVN is airing Buckeye Coverage. The OSU game ended at 6:30 PM on Saturday with the Crew game starting at 7:30 PM that evening. WTVN wanted to bring listeners postgame coverage.

This is just like how 102.5 airs Columbus Blue Jackets NHL games when WBNS-FM is airing Buckeye games/coverage.

Has CC Columbus dropped Hip Hop and Rhythm from their new Gen-X format? They didn't play it when they were Mainstream Alt Rock and Active Rock.
It sounds like they haven't.

My point is Mainstream Alt Rock and Active Rock stations don't normal don't pay Hip Hop and Rhythm songs. So, maybe they want to stay with the
slightly changed Gen-X format and won't evolve completely into a Mainstream Alt Rock or Active Rock station.

I remember listening to 106.7 as Radio 106.7 and heard Cypress Hill on it a few times. And CD101 sometimes plays Hip-Hop sounding tracks on their station. I think you are right, they might leave the format alone to what it is now.

I don't really understand why they would put the format back to what it was, wasn't Radio 106.7 only getting numbers in the 1.1 - 1.5 range while Gen-X was getting around the 2.0s?

IMO, they should have changed the format somewhere in the Urban area.

I have to agree with "imadethis", they're going backwards not forwards. I would've threw on a mainstream urban to take on WCKX and WXMG but it's all about who's in charge. JHC, I noticed they stopped calling themselves, "Gen X Radio" and decided to go with Gen X 106-7. I've also heard new imaging. Interesting.

Now we all go from 93.3 being a waste of signal to 106.7 being a wasted signal. Any other signals in Columbus you guys think is a waste?

Does it bother you that people on this board have that opinion? This website is based on people's opinions of radio stations. If you disagree you should probably state why you think it's not a waste. Saying "You guys all thought 93.3 was a waste, and now you think 106.7's a waste. That's stupid." Is basically what you said in your last post. At least that's how it came across to me.

Personally I think all the signals are a waste except for the two that WCRS uses, I'm not ashamed to say it, and every once in a while I do during the course of my show. Episode #300 on November 10!

It doesn't bother me people have an opinion. That being said, unexplained opinions usually crack me up whether in politics, business, culture, or whatever.

Radio-Info is about the radio business. While the public's one word opinions ("awesome", "fail", "suuuuuuck") are important, I find the opinions of those inside the industry much more interesting. That's why I post and come here. I learn how and why the business is the way it is.

As a listener and music fan, I agree with jakej. Radio is pretty stale these days but I don't think that's unique to Columbus. I also think we're pretty lucky here to have some of the formats we do have.
Being in the media business, I tend to ignore the "this blows" remarks because those are generally fleeting opinions and if you follow them too much, you'll be out of a job or out of business.

On 106.7, I'm actually listening again. I probably have more diverse music tastes than most people, but it's hard for me to jump between all different genres as fast as Gen X was jumping. I didn't like Rhythm is a Dancer following Teen Spirit. I like those songs by themselves, but not together. The current format makes more sense (IMO) and doesn't assume that Gen Xers wouldn't like current music.

That's my two sense and as always, I'm very prone to being wrong. :)

I'll keep this simple. I also don't like the mix between rhythmic and rock but I'm on the other end of this. Why can't we have a rhythmic station for us generation xers? (is xers a word?) Anyway, there's a crapload of rock, hits, and country stations but not much variety for the rest of us.
