It seems KFWB continues to sink

Alfredo Najera was part of KKHJ at the time before they went to all-news and then switched to La Ranchera and became KHJ once again. This was some guy who did overnights. I remember at the time there was pressure from the the National Hispanic Media Coalition for the FCC to deny KKHJ's license renewal application based on what it called the station's "indecent programming." Anyway, like I said before whether it's Spanish or English, AM is in deep trouble.

No it wasn't Alfredo contigo was is now on your station Recuerdo.

Alfredo Nájera is not on Recuerdo. Hasn't been for about a year.

[/quote] It was some other guy. He would play a laughtrack like other latino dj's. It was when KKHJ (now KHJ) had a talk format before La Ranchera. I can't remember the guy's name. Anyway I know KTNQ had it's heyday when Humberto Luna was on the station who paved the way for the Cucuys,Piolins and Don Chetos of today.

Actually, the one who began personality morning radio in LA was "El Chato" López Qintana on KWKW aroud 1972. He did voices, bits and humor... and was later followed by "Rodolfino" on the same station, but who as unfortunately murdered. Luna, on KTNQ, and Mario Talbot, "El Gato VIudo" were the two contenders after that. Luna won by virtue of the signal, but was rather quickly dethroned by Jaime Piña at KWKW when KW changed from Radio 13 to La Mexicana areound 1982. In 1992, Piña moved to KTNQ mornings, displacing Luna to middays but just a few months later, the debut of La X on FM pretty much destroyed forever AM regional Mexican listening.

Renán did not become a factor until 1997 with the debut of KSCA, but he was moved to afternoons about 7 years ago to be replaced by Eddie Sotelo (who had been, in 1992-93 the overnight guy at KKHJ's sister, KWIZ AM). Renán lasted a short time in afternoons, spent time on KLAX and then disappeared.

Addressing the signal problem of KFWB (they're still non-directional one of the few 5kws that are?), I remember Dodgers fans were very very very unhappy about the signal problems when KFWB carried the Boys in Blue's games.

Almost as bad as when the Angels first went to 830 AM. How embarassing was it that the home team fans couldn't even pick up the game in the stadium.

Huh? ??? That problem existed when the Angels were on KSPN where when exiting the parking lot after a night game, I turned my car left onto Orangewood Avenue and momementarily nulled the KSPN signal to get that Spanish language station from the Phoenix area stepping on the KSPN signal.

The KLAA signal is fine night and day around the stadium.

haha That shows you how much I listen to Recuerdo which is not much. I like Jose better. Interesting read though thanks David.

Dave Ramsey announced a couple days ago that his show will be moving to 9 AM come Monday March 15th. That clears a live hour for him, which is 11 AM-12 PM.

A banner ad on laradio.com today says something to the effect of "Dave Ramsey
live in L.A." I suppose it's referring to the one live hour, meaning the other two
hours are yesterday's show, or as we like to say on the TV boards, "day behind."

While Ramsey's website still says he's live 2-5 PM ET (11 AM-2 PM PT), I have to
ask if the show did move its live timeslot to 9-noon PT, or is Ramsey doing two
special KFWB hours 9-11 AM, perhaps for today or this week?
