"IT"

Are there plans for XM to run "IT: The Encyclopedia of Pop Music" this fall? I've subscribed to XM for 3+ years now, and it's one of their best features.

I hope I'm wrong, but I believe XM has abandoned the "IT" feature, I believe it's been over a year since they last did "IT" and for a while, they were programing "IT" twice a year.

It is very interesting to hear the history of Pop Music going back to 1930 through present, going through all the decade channels.

IT is an annual event. Not bi-annual. We're just about at a year.

I sure enjoyed "IT" I listened to as much as I could and was amazed at all the songs I hadn't heard in ages and quite a few that I had NEVER heard before!

I'm starting to hear "Howard" commercials....ewww!

I just heard from one that would know and "IT" is a no go for this year. It seems that the paper merger is complete but the actual merger is just beginning. Lots of folks at the decades channels are sitting on pins and needles, or should that be "Needles and Pins" Sorry couldn't help myself..lol...

Then, we should should start hearing the promos for IT shortly.

Even though I always thought it was a yearly event, it seems that either in 2006 or 2007 IT ran twice within a year, maybe not 6 months apart; but my memory is probably failing me! :)

thanks for the bad news, RadioStarOne! :), but with the merger and not hearing any promos yet and nothing on the XM website, I was afraid of that; I can only hope that your inside source is mistaken.

I would love to have a CD collection of it; maybe XM (if they were smart enough to record "IT" could make some money (since apparently, they need more of the green stuff) sellling a CD collector's set of "IT".

As an XM subscriber, I am anxious as well as who on the XM decades channels might be let go and if (IMO) the inferior decade programming from Sirius will be what we will end up with.

If they are going to drop cool programming like IT, then I'm not going to bother subscribing anymore. What is the point, if it gets watered down to terrestrial radio status?

IT seems like a no-brainer. It's not even hosted by jocks, the computer plays the songs, and the list is already largely in place. It costs nothing.

Maybe the newly merged company will go belly-up, like so many other things these days.....

I'm not surprised, but very disappointed, should this be the case. I consciously chose XM because of what I perceived as original and occasionally quirky programming, "like radio used to be". There's a reason why traditional radio has evolved the way it has, because of economics over art. But that reason is why millions of us have invested in satellilte radio. It would be ironic if the same dynamics drove the programming mindset post-merger. I'll admit - I'm tired of the liners on every channel already about "the best of Sirius" (and I have upgraded).

I've heard through the rotting grapevine that the Holiday Music Specials/Channels (IGOR, Holly etc;) will not return as well  :'(

I bet it doesn't come back as we know it....but I bet they do have some all holiday music channels (Probably ditch a couple channels for it) as I think Sirius did the same last year.

To my knowledge, "It" has always been a once a year thing. In the 4 years I have had XM, it has always been in the Fall. Some years September, others October and November. Last year, it was mostly in November. This time last year, I was asking the same thing. If it is December 1 and we still haven't heard it, then I will be worried.

"IT" is maybe the best thing XM ever aired...A fellow XM-er informed me this week, don't know if it's true, that channel consolidation could begin as soon as Nov. 5. I will be at the ready to cancel if they touch any of the decades channels. It won't be worth having...I've heard Sirius's decades channels and they sound like terrestrial radio with limited playlists...Thanks for letting me vent.

Wouldn't it have been smart for Sirus/XM to e-mail their subscribers with a survey to determine which channels are being listened to the most?

I DID get a survey months ago from OTX surveys. It took me about a 1/2 hour to fill out and it was a pretty exhaustive survey about XM.
