This is based on the last several times that I listened to Kiss 108, plus the fact that they must separate themselves from Jam'n due to the fact that Kiss' and Jam'n's audiences are completely separate demographics. Granted, this was some time ago (we don't have a radio at the place where I work since Mumbles won't allow it). As I see it, the only other type of music besides rap is rock (not exactly flexible), since dance music is an automatic for rap stations. Yes, I read the national charts, but let's not forget how vastly different Boston is from the rest of America (i.e. not even American IMHO).
That having been said, here are the songs stamped as rock by yours truly (I'm very fast to judge based on previous songs by these artists):
28. Who Knew - Pink (basing my rock brand on her screaming rock hit "U + Ur Hand" and her turn doing "I Hate Myself For Loving You" - a rock tune countrified by Faith Hill this year - on NBC's SNF last year)
20. Misery Business - Paramore (legit - on both 'BCN and 'FNX)
18. Me And You - Fall Out Boy (a 'BCN/'FNX favorite band)
16. Dance Floor Anthem - Good Charlotte (see above two)
14. Paralyzer - Finger Eleven (the #2 metal, i.e. active rock, hit for '07 behind Three Days Grace's "Pain", and top 5 grunge and mainstream rock for '07 as well)
13. Over You - Chris Daughtry (kudos to 'AAF for not actually playing anyone from AI - thumbs down to co-owned 'HJY for constantly playing Daughtry in '07)
11. Rockstar - Nickelback (one of last year's biggest mainstream rock and heavy metal hits)
6. Wake Up Call - Maroon 5 (BTW, 'BOS counts as a rock station, and Maroon 5 is a 'BOS favorite)
2. Bubbly - Colbie Caillat (#1 hit in 'BOS's format)
1. Apologize - Timbaland (non-rock, along with 20 other songs - Kiss has more than one Britney tune - isn't she washed up? Also Alicia Keys - #3 - is far ahead at Kiss vs. the national norm - #16 pop)
OK, that's 9 of 30, not exactly rock heavy. Again my basis is on Kiss always playing rock hits like "Summer Of '69" by Bryan Adams (yes, anyone ever on 'BCN counts - I am a tough judge) and soundalike songs "Black Hole Sun" (Soundgarden), "Under The Bridge" (Red Hot Chili Pepers) and "Lightning Crashes" (Live) during daytime hours when I'm driving instead of - say - "Word Up" (Cameo; same era as Bryan Adams, and unlike Adams, a true SJW-era Kiss classic), "Sandstorm" (Darude) and "One More Time" (Daft Punk) - at least pick up where Star left off.
Once 'BCN (or Mix) drops rock (1.3 rating) for rap (a piece of Jam'n's 8.7) on New Year's Day, maybe the airwaves will sound better (I'm not holding my breath though).
