I for one personally applaud the "Primary Editorial Voice" on "Ohiomediawatch" for the recent "Hiatus Post". The "comment" portion of OMW has become nothing more than a trash bin of tastelessness, and home to envy, resentment and a profound lack of professional courtesy. Nothing but bitter diatribes instead of the sharing of useful information... inappropriate and immature personal attacks instead of congratulatory remarks! It certainly makes you question the true character of some of these on-line attackers!
Imagine if other forms of business had the same type of "specific" forum that radio (professionals) have to voice their opinions. Do you think that Tony at the Cleveland Ave. Burger King would be on there talking trash about Bob at the State St. McDonalds?... Or how about setting up an on-line message board so that Kevin at Downtown Ford can talk about the bad customer service that Kelly gives at Courtesy Kia. Now wouldn't that be just completely asinine???
Radio of course is extrememely competitive and sometimes cutthroat by nature because of everything that is at stake, but we all know just how fast the radio revolving door spins... the guy you pass judgment on one day could be your boss or co-worker in a couple of months... maybe sooner than that! I realize that we all have our personal opinions of others in the industry, and the likelihood of message board utopia is never going to happen, but I applaud OMW in the fact that they are at least attempting to clean up a site that should be useful and beneficial for all area media professionals. Remember, we are the fortunate ones... I'm sure that there are plenty of factory workers and burger flippers that would trade places with you in a second!
