Well, it looks like all is back to the status quo at K-104.7, and the "Christmas Lite" has been turned off for the time being.

My guess is one more Christmas preview weekend and then 100% Christmas music starting on Friday, November 16.

Yep! BasicallY ALL THE STATIONS WILL GO 100% Christmas Music on 11/16 at 5pm!

Well, we were both wrong! Seems like both WLYT and WKQC flipped today, Tuesday, 11/13 at 7PM! I'm currently not in Charlotte, and I was talking with one of my relatives there, and suddenly she mentioned that there was a "Christmas 104.7" television commercial. I was quite surprised, as I had checked the status of both 102.9 and 104.7 earlier in the day when I had a free moment. But, nevertheless, both are now officially all-Christmas! It's beginning to sound a lot like Christmas in the Carolinas!

Also, seems as if K, instead of Lite this year, will be the radio station I see at the SouthPark tree lighting -- a great family tradition! Drive all day and see the tree at night. Can't wait!

An aside:

I've been listening online, and K-104.7 has run the same jingle three times in ten minutes. The one with the little donut in the middle... Christmas K-104.7.......Merry Christmas - K-104.7. I know they have the "Holiday Pack" from JAM and another JAM Christmas package originally done for WABC, I believe. I hope they make use of them instead of the same two cuts from "Consistently Coast." Musically, however, as always, Christmas K continues to make me smile! :)

I think Lite and K always go within minutes of each other...but as much as we make fun of it and hate it by day 2, our best ratings were when we went all Christmas on Halloween night. I will never forget it!! We haven't done it since, but just goes to show you what the ratings say. unbelievable really.

When K was Cool 104.7, they flipped to ALL CHRISTMAS on November 1st. They were called, "Christmas 104.7". Then they went Cool 104.7 and shortly after that, K was born!

UPDATE: All bets are off. It seems as if the two stations just played Christmas music from 7PM through midnight. I guess they really get a kick out of screwing with people. I'd be miffed if I had woken up this morning, turned on my radio expecting Christmas music, and then, with no warning, I heard AC songs again. Maybe it will be 11/16 at 5PM that the two stations flip for good. Who knows?

Christmas Music in Charlotte

K104.7 and Lite 102.9 have been playing Christmas music from 7PM-Midnight for the past week or so. I believe it is because the syndicated Delilah show on Lite 102.9 is programming holiday music during that time. I'm assuming that is the reason.

Johnny, you are correct. I have been the lucky jock to begin Christmas music from 7-midnight for the last 2 weeks.
When it turns to full time xmas is anyone's guess...but I have an idea ;)

Christmas music in Charlotte

I know it is a non-commercial Christian station, but it looks like New Life 91.9 will be the first to go all Christmas music in Charlotte this year. According to an email sent out this afternoon to New Life Insiders, the flip to Christmas music will happen at 7:15 tomorrow morning.

Here is the email:

It won’t be too long before we are all decorating our homes for Christmas. It’s a truly enjoyable time of year as we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. We change our home décor. Churches add new and different programs for the opportunity to reach the once-or-twice-a-year visitors. Our schedules get busy with celebrations and open houses.

Very soon, something similar to all that will be happening at New Life 91.9. In a way, we also decorate and then throw open our “doors” for a huge open house. It is the one time of year we play music that anyone and everyone recognizes and enjoys. Because of that, we really see this as quite the opportunity! It is an opportunity to welcome in brand new listeners with music they already know and, while they are here, introduce them to what New Life 91.9 is all about.

That is why you’ll hear (alongside our other great Christmas music) come classic Christmas songs from us this year – songs from the likes of Bing Crosby, Burl Ives, Nat King Cole and others. Think of these particular songs as hooks. They are hooks designed to bring in the new listeners who will then hear the overall message of hope and love found in Jesus Christ.

Will you pray that many more people will be impacted for Jesus Christ through New Life 91.9 this Christmas season? Also, this is a great time of year to tell your friends and co-workers about the great Christmas music on New Life 91.9. You can impact their lives by pointing them here.

Oh, and by the way, Christmas music begins at 7:15am tomorrow!

Merry Christmas!

Johnny,

I think WRCM has always done a great job promoting themselves and Christian values. That's not always an easy task these days. The station has been a huge success story and deservedly so.

My one small gripe is years ago they refused to play Amy Grant. It was a mandate from station ownership the Columbia Bible College. From what I heard they didn't approve of her divorce and re-marriage. I always thought that was a little harsh. They also received a lot of flack from listeners about it but I don't believe they ever budged from their stance.

I wonder if they will play any Amy Grant Christmas tunes this year?

Last night I saw a commercial saying Lite 102.9 was playing Christmas music. They didn't say it would start soon. They said it had started.

WRCM is indeed playing Amy Grant's Christmas music. In fact they were playing a lot of good Christmas music this morning.

I will say one thing. I turned on K-104.7 Saturday night to see if they had anything good. At night my Dial Global station isn't worth hearing signalwise. So if I want to hear Christmas music, I have to take my chances. I intended to stay with them until they played a bad song. Would you believe five in a row? This is actually better than my Dial Global station did this morning.

I too have a real problem with their stance on both Amy Grant and Sandi Patti as well. I just wonder about where Christian love went to. I am all for Christian values, but I believe in Christian love as well and both WRCM and their sister station WMHK have had the habit over the last several years of as I would say showing the letter of the law and not necessarily the spirit of the law and it makes me wonder how non_Christians view Christians based on their play lists and what they espouse on these stations.

I think it all comes down to respect. We should realize that not everyone is going to share our religious and political beliefs. We shouldn't expect them to. Instead we should be tollerant of other views even if we don't agree. Discussions should be done in a non confrontational manner. You might want to find out why someone believes the way they do. Sometimes the best thing we can do is just listen without comment then really think about what the other person is saying. Too often people talk without really listening or understanding.

Christian values to me includes not judging others. Also it's better to hate the sin and love the sinner.

One day lost in thought I started giving myself credit for not falling into certain temptations. Then I started thinking that I just very fortunate that I hadn't been seriously tempted. I gave thanks to soneone bigger than I am for that!

Sorry didn't intend to get on my soapbox!

Merry Christmas!

All I know is I heard something that sounded adult contemporary when I happened to land there.

And it was secular.

Their signal's not as good as it once was.

Nothing really matters as long as I can hear the good stuff on WYFQ. I need to remember that station when Dial Global isn't doing what I want.

WYFQ AM or FM? I fear that 930 still doesn't have many listeners and most are probably listening to the FM.

FM, and I don't even listen that much. Usually when I think to turn to the station, they're doing that Christian soap opera rather than music.

Now one year I did listen to them for my Christmas music. They were all-Christmas the whole month, back when adult contemporary stations hadn't even thought to do it. We didn't even have standards except for WBT on weekends.

Makes me feel bad for poor AM 930. No one seems to even know it exists.

I wonder how long it will take before stations like this are no longer missed and they just pull the plug?
