> Where did WAAF go? As far as I know, it never left the air.
They didn't, but about a month ago, they moved their transmitter to a new directional antenna site slightly closer to Boston, as they continue to attempt to become known as a Boston station.
They moved it from the WSRS radio tower just west of Worcester in Paxton to the WUNI Channel 27 TV tower just east of Worcester in Boylston. (I'm sure they would have moved it even closer to Boston if the FCC would have allowed them).
This "upgrade" reportedly resulted in complete loss of coverage in CT, RI, and Western MA, and reception has actually been far worse in their target area of Greater Boston (where I am) than it was before.
Something seemed very wrong, even with the somewhat directional pattern beamed eastward it should not have been so deficient everywhere (including Boston), but no information that I know of was released indicating whether there was a technical problem with their new antenna site, or if coverage from this "upgrade" somehow didn't work out as logistically planned and they were stuck with it.
I haven't checked around here since before yesterday to see if there's now any improvement here in the Boston area, if it indeed is now audible again in CT. Hopefully they found a problem with the new antenna and were able to rectify it. It would be a real shame if they were stuck with the "upgrade" we've been hearing (or not hearing) for the past month.
