It's Back...WAAF

107.3 WAAF has returned to Hartford after a short absence, blasting through the streets of the city with WAAF's own brand of slightly more eclectic than 106.9 but still boring rock.

Where did WAAF go? As far as I know, it never left the air.

It's in reference to their awful decision to change their pattern and moving their stick closer to Boston. Big mistake.

They didn't, but about a month ago, they moved their transmitter to a new directional antenna site slightly closer to Boston, as they continue to attempt to become known as a Boston station.

They moved it from the WSRS radio tower just west of Worcester in Paxton to the WUNI Channel 27 TV tower just east of Worcester in Boylston. (I'm sure they would have moved it even closer to Boston if the FCC would have allowed them).

This "upgrade" reportedly resulted in complete loss of coverage in CT, RI, and Western MA, and reception has actually been far worse in their target area of Greater Boston (where I am) than it was before.

Something seemed very wrong, even with the somewhat directional pattern beamed eastward it should not have been so deficient everywhere (including Boston), but no information that I know of was released indicating whether there was a technical problem with their new antenna site, or if coverage from this "upgrade" somehow didn't work out as logistically planned and they were stuck with it.

I haven't checked around here since before yesterday to see if there's now any improvement here in the Boston area, if it indeed is now audible again in CT. Hopefully they found a problem with the new antenna and were able to rectify it. It would be a real shame if they were stuck with the "upgrade" we've been hearing (or not hearing) for the past month.

They weren't on WSRS's tower, they were on the old Ch 14 tower at the top of the mountain, near WSRS. but not on the same tower.

I think it's the new antenna. The signal to the west is still a lot less than it was before. Me thinks there was some sort of problem or delay in getting full power out of the new 'tenner...

I wasn't able to receive it here in Hartford for about a month after they moved to a new antenna closer to Boston. Now, it seems like it's coming in just as strong as before, I can pick it up just like a local in stereo here in my flat. Not sure if they went back to the old antenna.

TXengineer posted on the Boston board that they went back to the old Paxton site for now.

Yes, I agree. I am disappointed that I am unable to hear WAAF as clearly as I used to.

Do you know why waaf can't just go to the top of Wachussett mountain just north of worcester at all? The ct reception is better And I pleased I can now pull it in on I-91 north of hartford but its not back in new haven on rt 15 east of the tunnel (what I like to call a radio barrier between RI radio and nyc radio). If I had to settle with what i got now for their coverage I guess I could handle It. I'll have to see what the coverage is like at mt. snow come later this week-weekend i know people like listeng to waaf at the base lodge.

Yeah, I had a hard time getting them while they were on the new tower, not that I listen to them, but nice to see it working properly again.

It's funny, it's coming to me in Hartford exactly as it did before. In the month that I didn't have WAAF, nothing filled the spot between 106.9 and 107.7. So it was one radio option, gone. Now it's back, hope we keep it, I'd rather have an FM dial that's as filled as possible!

In my opinion WAAF totally blows now....A couple years ago they were THE HOTTEST THING in NEW ENGLAND (Them and 103.7) -- I even took thier audio stream out of my favorites....Total crap now...(Older music,etc..........)A couple years ago it was extreme alternative, hard rock,ah it was great (That Area started going downhill when 103.7 stupidly sold)
