It's beginning to sound a lot like Christmas....

OMG!!!!! :) ;D ;) :D Could this be a REAL Christmas present to some of us who crave music, and in English?!? Will The Eagle return? Or Sunny? Or Z-97?

Mikey -

All weather & traffic 24/7....with onscene drivers/callers, Skywarn reporters
& Tornado Chaser/Ski Report weekends! ;) It'd be the only traffic/weather
service (Clear Channel) that I haven't worked for in this crazy a** town ...
LOL ;D Plus, you and I could do traffic, get away from the knife wielding ice
queens, and wouldn't have to be bombarded in our headphones by the likes
of Pumpkin Head, the Patriotic Irish Drunk, or the Mad Jew.... ;)

However, I'd miss the humor of Hal and crew...The ONLY thing that
keeps 820 as a preset for me...

I would like for it be jazz or a full signal black gospel station.

All Orson Welles, All The Time.

Would be odd for FM - but better than most of the current AM formats.

Yeah, but what kind of radio would that be? 24 hours of War of the Worlds... man, and you thought LITE FM puts you in agony with Christmas. Oy! ;D

BTY, Thanks for the tip about 97.1.... I've got 103.7 deleted from the presets, and have added "The New Christmas Station" (sans Delilah!!).

This is what should happen in the Clear Channel cluster:

92.5: flips to Country still using the LoneStar handle name.
97.1: Flips to Classic Rock using the "Eagle Name."
102.1: Tweaks to Active Rock, but keeps the "Edge" name
102.9: Stays the same
106.1: Stays the same

This would balance the cluster perfectly.

I would call this a ClusterF*@%, because the last thing I would want to hear is yet another $%^#@$$ "Classic Rock" polished turd setlist ! ! Isn't 93.3 pooping out what you want to hear already ???? But then again.... there are a lot of Joe Schmoes for our wonderful advertising partners to reach!! That makes it all Better.... knowing that at least someone something is being served well.

How about a "Rock" station.... for the "rest of us" ???

OK Rover, what's your idea of "for the rest of us"? You've beaten the horse to death so many times, yet when you post songs that define your idea of rocking, it's usually stuff that very few have heard of (except perhaps die hard music collectors, maybe).

Rover won't like this, but what he wants is something that hasn't really been on the radio since the 1970s...progressive rock and album rock. Stations like KFWD/KTXQ, KAMC and KAFM once played this format. Problem is these days, the younger demo doesn't know those songs, nor do they care to learn about them. Rover's demo (which appears to be MY demo as well) is not coveted much, and we're about to trail off into oblivion in a few short years (according to the agencies.) Personally, I have no problem with those formats, and it'd be great to hear some of those songs again...BUT...the only classic rock-related format that I truly believe would work *right now* is "Modern Classic Rock." (XM "Big Tracks" for example.) This is heavy on 80s and 90s "classic" rock, with a few select late 70s thrown in. It's basically a maturation of what we normally call "classic rock." 25-44 males would eat it up, esp compared to what The Bone and the former KZPS are/were playing. Much like we talk about KLUV's or KEOM's oldies lineup having to "mature" with its audience, the same has to happen with Classic Rock. The old stuff doesn't cut it anymore...just check FOUR years of The Bone's ratings. Anyone else would have dumped out of The Bone long ago...and looking at the last 2 or 3 books, there was really no audience "inherited" from KZPS.

Consider, too, that as some folks get older, their musical tastes change. I think a lack of hearing "their" music on the radio anymore makes listeners disenfranchised, and they eventually defect from their younger days of Top 40 and Classic Rock over to Country, Soft Rock/AC and even Smooth Jazz, just to have something to listen to. I know plenty of 40-somethings who have gravitated towards Country from various unrelated types of music, for whatever reason.

I know many of us here are die-hard and true to our musical tastes, no matter how long we've cherished them. Your common, 'everyman' listener probably doesn't track stations like we do, nor has a huge CD or record collection to draw from when the radio lets us down, etc..."Normal People" (which obviously we're not, thank God) don't care about the nuts-and-bolts like we do, but hey, they fill out the diaries. If they turn off The Bone and start listening to KSCS, it defies logic, but it happens...and probably WAY more than we even realize.

Bravo, Mike. 8)

And now I'll go back to ripping more songs into OtsDJ, since My Community Leader is still stuck in the 70's. ::)
