I second that. Amazing that an FM station out of Chicago (WPPN) shows up occasionally in the Milwaukee-Racine ratings books when it is virtually static around Milwaukee. WIND also cracked a full share here at times when they had a Spanish-language format.
And WEXT is the perfect frequency to pull it off. The big boys in town are too content with what they already have (or are too adamant about trying to out-classic rock each other). And 104.7 hits the south side of Milwaukee and Racine very well (high concentrations of Hispanic residents). For a move-in with limited power like WEXT, they really needed to do a unique format. The Wolf was good, and ratings weren't all that bad (especially since, for some reason, classic country is often a ratings dog), but it would never come close to being a real threat to FM106.
Maybe WBWI (92.5) will see the light, add some of the classic stuff and try to stop being merely the less corporate version of FM106. 92.5's tower is on the opposite side of the market from WEXT's, but there is some overlap. They could pick up some disenfranchised Wolf listeners, if they ever desired to extend their sphere of influence outside of West Bend.<P ID="signature">______________
